Short stack question
What do you typically do when you're down to <5BBs or so and you don't plan on rebuying? Do you just pick up your chips, or do you pick a hand with decent showdown value (some pocket pair or Ax) and get your money in there before you're blinded to death?

Re: Short stack question
I'm almost never sitting with less than 15BB, and if I am, I leave after I'm UTG.

Re: Short stack question
Rebuy before you get down to more than you would put in any large pot, at least 10BB.

Re: Short stack question
Then you leave before you get down to more than 10BB, so if you have less pick up your chips.

Re: Short stack question
Just wanted to add that it seems most players are down a lot and are on tilt and are in a hurry to go and basically just throw away their money trying to gamble it on one hand like playing blackjack or some casino game instead of player poker. They decide they are either going to go bust or make back most their money, about 80% of the time its go bust.

Re: Short stack question
I thought this was probably a leak I have, and now I'm positive. If I don't plan on rebuying there's no reason for me to stay at a table with less than about 10BBs.
Thanks for reassuring that for me. |

Re: Short stack question
Having less than I'd say 5BBs at the table is absolutely stupid. 10 BBs... there's hope, but if you really care about the money just pick it up. |

Re: Short stack question
I would just leave. I rebuy any time I get below 12 big bets or so. Gotta be ready to take advantage of a monster hand that's capped on all streets, you know (3 raise limit in L.A.). But it's nice to have some extra in case you get heads up on the end with some moron who keeps reraising when you have the nuts.

Re: Short stack question
I'd put it in with any playable hand (in terms of showdown value) and leave.
The big advantages of short stack play: You are offering no implied odds, can't be bluffed out and won't be facing any tough situations... You just push when the odds good enough for you (estimated) preflop equity (which is very often with 5 bbl if there already is money in the pot). GL |
