Default Dealer changing mid-hand

The other day I saw something I had never seen before. A dealer tapped into the box in the middle of a hand! First dealer delivered the cards and handled the flop. Second dealer comes in to deal the turn and river.

I can see very little benefit in a procedure like this, but a lot of negative. If there is any additional hands per hour gained by the procedure, they will be obliterated when there is a beef that could have been solved by the original dealer.

I was told that this was a new procedure, and was not an isolated incident. It happened several times during my session.

It does allow the dealer to possibly reach the break room a minute earlier. Is this worth the hassle?

The casino was one of the "Bay Area" clubs.

Any thoughts from some of our dealers here?

Yeep. Not only does that open the door to a whole lot of problems, it reinforces the idea of dealers as interchangable trained monkeys. Well, okay, that's what we are, but why be so blatant about it?

Just the other day someone told me that he had seen this procedure in Puerto Rico.

Unless there is some kind of emergency and the dealer needs to get out of the box this is absolutely unacceptable.
I have seen this maybe 5 or six times in 15 years of playing .
A few times the dealer was ill (this is ok), once the dealers kid was hurt at school and TWICE casino security was there and escorted the dealer out of the room.
OH damn off topic but this is damn funny.
About 7 months ago I was in a 30/60 game. Got heads up with a scruffy dude. On the turn METRO, 4 of them, (Las Vegas police) walk up behind the guy I am heads up with. River played. Scruffy guy folds, Metro grabs the guy, cuffs him and halls him off. Word comes back he was wanted for passing bad checks. THAT IS A DOUBLE BEAT FOR THE GUY.

Sounds like management is just being anal about pushes staying on sched (say first dealer has to wait a minute, then the next dealer has to wait two.. Lord forbid if they have to wait for an Omaha hand...)
I also agree this is just opening the door for problems. Can you imagine the floor having to go back and forth from the pre/flop dealer to the turn/river dealer to get all the action?? That alone should disuade them.

Maybe I am missing something but doesn't it all correct itself at the next push? Except for a guy who is going to punch out and has to stay an extra minute or two - and is the casino really going to care about 1/20 of $5 or whatever they pay dealers per hour - assuming they pay for it?

Last weekend we had a dealer misdeal a hand after being tapped. The new dealer did the re-deal. Even that seemed off to me (though I can't see the harm in it).

I can't remember who did the reshuffle.

I was dealing once. As soon as I spread the flop, another dealer ran up behind me, yelling, "Get up! Get up!"

I thought maybe there was something under my chair, so I stood.

"Drop the deck!"

Now I thought there was something under my chair, and it was on fire. I dropped the deck in a way to make it retrievable. There was nothing under my chair, and I was thoroughly confused.

"Go see the floorman."

The floorman was at the front podium. He wasn't smiling. He was holding the telephone receiver, indicating that I had a phone call.

It was midnight. I've never received good news by telephone, at midnight, in the middle of a hand I was dealing.

It was my wife, calling me from a parking lot as she watched a building burn down. The building we lived in, of course.

I think that's an example of a GOOD reason to push a dealer in the middle of a hand. It's a very short list.

(This was a while ago. Nobody was hurt, and nothing that couldn't be replaced was lost.)
