Default Alexi Lalas: MLS on Par with Premier League

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...73&cc=5901

Is this guy retarded? Doesn't he realize the best Americans who have gone over to Europe and the premier league have not succeeded. Let me guess NFL Europe is on par with the NFL too now. I guess he's part of the management of MLS but I can't believe he can possibly be serious.

Obviously it's an outlandish statement, but I assume he's trying to draw attention to the fact that there's a lot of mediocre/bad clubs in the Premiership. The whole league isn't top notch take your breath away soccer.

But in a match that meant something to both teams the relegated premiership teams would be a solid favorite over the best MLS teams on a neutral ground.

It's definitely an elitist league where there are only really 4 great clubs and a bunch of mediocre clubs. It definitely has less parity then most American leagues but still it's pretty outlandish.

Juan Pablo Angel said he was surprised MLS was as good as it is. He said every team is competitive so there are no easy games. Something which cannot be said about the Euro leagues.

In somewhat related news, Roy Williams guarenteed that the Lions would go 16-0 this year. Take it to the bank people. If someone said it on ESPN, it must be true.

That article is funny. I think LALA has some good points, but also some silly ones. Oh well. Dude is a better salesman than GM.

Well Alexi played in Serie A. He probably views the Premiership as a minor league anyway ;0)

it's obviously a statement that is meant to garner attention. We all know that the MLS isn't completely on par with the prem, but at the same time, the MLS isn't as bad as 3rd or 4th tier leagues in england or many 2nd divisions across europe. If the MLS was in europe, it would get a 1.5 rating from world soccer for their golden boot award, basically meaning that it's a second tier top division
