Default DKS Wrestling Videos – Classic North American Wrestling

Basically this thread will have North American matches from mid-90’s and earlier. I’ll also put a few old Japanese matches featuring some well known NA wrestlers.

Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat
Part 2
5/7/89 – NWA - 44:30
- Widely considered one of the best, if not the best wrestling match ever. Also one of the pimpest entrances ever by Flair. Must see.

Ric Flair-Ricky Steamboat Interview Segment
Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling – 5:23
- Old clip, quality sucks a bit and I don’t know what year it is, but it’s fun to see a really, really old Flair-Steamboat confrontation

Ric Flair vs. Kerry Von Erich
12/25/82 – NWA – Steel Cage Match – 30:56
- Michael Hayes is ref, Terry Gordy is gatekeeper. Haven’t watched it yet.

Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair
10/25/91 – 16:30
- Crappy handheld camera video, but it’s Hogan-Flair and I think one of their first matches ever

Rock & Roll Express vs. Randy Savage & Lanny Poffo
1984 – 2:12
- Short clip, but there’s a cool piledriver on a table spot. FYI, if you didn’t know, Savage and Poffo are real life brothers.

Mulkey Brothers vs. The Gladiators
1987 – 3:40
- I don’t know who these guys are really. But, if you do, maybe you’ll like it.

Bob Backund vs. Samoan #3
1983 – WWF – 8:32
- Hogan returns to the WWF at the end of the match.

Jim Duggan vs. Ted Dibiase
3/30/85 – WWF – No Time Limit/No DQ/Steel Cage/Coal Miner’s Glove/Loser Leaves Town/Tuxedo Street Fight – 14:12
- Yeah, those are all parts of the rules. I’m still not sure how they got to those rules or what they all mean, but it’s a cool match.

Pat Patterson vs. Sgt. Slaughter
5/4/81 – WWF – No Holds Barrred - 17:50
- Super bloody match.

Piper’s Pit with Jimmy Snuka
1984 – WWF – 3:08
- The most infamous of all Piper’s Pits.

Terry Funk vs. Jumbo Tsurata
6/11/76 – NWA Title Match – 2 out of 3 falls – 35:06
- A very young Funk takes in a match that took place in Japan for the NWA Title

Heavenly Bodies vs. Fantastics
8/8/92 – Smokey Mountain – Barbed Wire Cage Match – 23:37
- Fun, bloody match with some classic Jim Cornette moments.

its a pretty solid match, but what makes it important is that this mtach sets off one of the hottest fueds that has ever happened in wrestling and led to almost 3 years of straight sell outs in dallas and turned the Freebirds into a major money making act in the 80s. This angle has been redone several times, but never to the same effect

The immediate reaction to Hogan was impressive. He was over from the first second he arrived.

WOW! Quality selection of matches. Including several that I have read as being "must see."

I haven't watched it either. But IIRC this is the match that created the Freebird/Von Erich feud that headlined the Texas promotion for years.

The Mulkeys were jobbers. All they did was lose. Except this match.

JDW, a very well respected internet wrestling writer, considers this match one of the top 10 matches of the 70s. Haven't seen it yet, but looking forward to it.

Yeah, when I picked out these tapes years ago from a website, I went for the most "must see" matches that I could find. This isn't even all of them yet. Also, I'm going to start the Japanese Heavyweights thread soon which has a ton of must see matches that very few Americans have seen.

The Japanese heavyweights (particularly All Japan) were my favorites. I had a tape set that featured the top 20 All Japan matches of the 90s. Awesome tapes. Unfortunately, I seem to have lost it. Bummer. In your master tape thread, you listed some of those matches (the tag matches from 95 and 96, the Jumbo/Misawa matches). But I don't think you had some of the Kawada/Misawa matches which were considered classics. Or my favorite match of all-time, Hansen vs. Kobashi from July 93.

The part of the match where Slaughter gets busted open is great. I wonder if he cut deeper than he had intended.

The Mulkeys weren't ordinary jobbers. They were the ultimate NWA tag team jobbers. The earned some fame by losing in quick and devastating fashion.

As you can surmise from the video, this was their first win and everybody is shocked by it. The Mulkeys always losing was a running gag on the old TBS shows.

Jim Cornette managed them for a while and kept talking about "Mulkeymania" running wild, even as they were losing all their matches. Funny stuff.
