Assuming we can't see Hero's cards, how clear is CO's decision after the flop raise? Maybe it's a silly question, but can somebody show me the numbers so I understand better?

From what I see, CO has invested $26 before Hero raises. Yes, once Hero raises, CO must pay $54 for what is at best only half of a $162 pot ($81). But if he's 65% to win the high on the turn, then that works out to $52.65, slightly less than the $54 that he'd have to invest to win half the pot. If Hero would do the same thing with A234, then CO is nearly 82% to win the high after the flop, which works out to about $66.40 of equity in the high pot.

I guess my question is, at what point is it worth it to defend half the pot, even if you know you are being freerolled? It seems to me that Hero's hand and 2356, 2357 are the worst case scenario for CO.

only if you are pot committed is it going to be worth defending your hand, and sure as hell not for 2 1/2 buy ins, getting freerolled is BAD

Guys, I started playing an incredibly soft 1/2 Pot Limit 8 or better game locally, and wanted to ask for a few tips on how to adjust to loose/bad play. It was a full table of 9, and on average 6 or 7 people saw a flop. Btw, alot of guys are really DEEP including me, which I think changed the complexion of the game. I had $750 in front and there were at least 4 other $500+ stacks. So I had two hands I'd like feedback on:

A4XX in a straddled pot to a flop of 25XX, someone bets $15 and there are about 2 or 3 callers to me. Do you call here? My assumption was to not draw to the non-nut low with no redraws, and I mucked the hand. But with so many in the hand and so few properly evaluating their hands, should I stick around and see how the turn develops?

Another hand:
J7XX in the BB, limped pot with 7 callers. Flop is J high, it's checked around. The turn is a 7, the board is now semi coordinated with one straight possible and a bunch of straight draws opening up. I checked with the intention of C/Ring a better if he is reasonably shallow. Unfortunately I got a bet and 2 callers in front, and called, then folding when the river brought several straights.

Any thoughts?

the A4xx hand seems like a perfectly reasonable peel if a few players are deep and play poorly. You do have a GS to a wheel and you're getting like 4:1 immediate odds to boot.

J7 hand I would probably dump. Either the cards are > 7 and you have top and bottom pair, which could be drawing dead, or there's a low possible and you're drawing to 4 outs for half the pot. Either way, not a good situation.

EDIT: also, give this its own thread. This thread deserves LC stuff.

EDIT: LC STUFF to redeem myself:
