Re: Staking/Make-up question: What to do with lower prize-pools?
Here is what I dont get:
Obviously this guy is short on cash as he "needs" a backer. It doesnt sound like you appreciate your "need" for cash if youre saying "nah this event is too small, not worth me winning". |

especially between friends as you'll lose more than money if you fall out.

[/ QUOTE ] He's short on money for playing big events which he's still +EV in, like 2k+ or whatever, but not smaller events. Would be the same thing for me: I'd appreciate a stake into 1k events, but I wouldn't want the staker to back me for $50s or whatever. |

especially between friends as you'll lose more than money if you fall out. [/ QUOTE ] You hit the nail on the head. [/ QUOTE ] not really. i know of plenty of people who have backed friends who they thought were +ev, lost money, and just been like "lol sick." it's not the end of the world, both parties are making what they think is a +ev decision, but both people know its gambling, they're not going to be heartbroken if it doesn't work out. at least i don't think so. thayer/shaun/timex: u mad? also i wish funki would elaborate on his post. i have to assume that for like 99% of the poker population, a long term staking deal w/o makeup is going to be pretty -ev for the backer. are you saying maybe it should be done without makeup but with the horse getting a much smaller % of the profits, like 15% or something? also wd, youre getting so much flak because your first post really didnt say what your major problem is, which seems to be that you would rather play in these events on your own money rather than your backers. this is why you really need to come to terms on a deal, even between friends. in my case, we hammered out a deal at the beginning which has been constantly reworked throughout our backing relationship. that's ok, but you really need at least something to work with so that if one party doesn't like something, the other party can see "well listen dude, we agreed to this." |
