Default Hibernate vs Standby

Newbish Q here.

1)What's the benefits of each?

2)If I have a program running and it goes into Standby/Hibernate, does the program stop what it was doing?

Thanks

Default Re: Hibernate vs Standby

Hibernate saves what's in your memory to your HDD and completely turns off your computer. You don't use any power (or battery) while you're hibernating.

Standby (from my understanding) just stops everything and suspends it to RAM.

No programs continue to run in either mode. One of the advantages of standby is that it's much faster to resume from it than it is from hibernation.

I would recommend using hibernate if you have to suspend for a long time and don't have a continuous power source (e.g. laptop) and standby for short periods of non-use.
