Welcome to the forums.

Pf I 3bet any decent ace in this situation. Make them fold their SB next time rather than let them think they can limp in and get 3:1 on their money. Your hand is strong so letting him bet is fine. I would not raise until the turn or river unless I had a read that he would play back with lesser hands.

Most of the time I'll 3bet this preflop, but I'll also sometimes just call the raise (especially against a passive or unknown opponent, but sometimes also against a very aggressive one). Against the very aggressive opponent, I will also often just call down unimproved, depending of course on the board.

I would have raised the flop, yes, because I would also have raised the flop with two hearts, a king, and against some players, a 7, pocket pair, or nothing at all. Most of the time in these situations you'll get more out of your opponent by going ahead and raising immediately, especially when the flop is drawy.

In this case I doubt it would have mattered, as his line indicates that he had absolutely nothing.

in a 6max online game i'm 3betting pf against anyone but a player i know to be passive and unaware of position preflop.

after that i would raise the flop without a read. if i had a read i might vary things a bit, but usually i'll hope he thinks i'm FOS or that he hit a hand and will pay me off.

I think a case can be made for calling preflop.

If you 3-bet you will freeze up the action on A high flops and not get paid much by non SD bound players. By calling you will still raise A high flops but its more likely that villain will go to SD cuz a flop raise for some reason indicates less strength than the preflop 3-bet.

If you 3-bet you will also bloat the pot making it more profitable for villain to take shots postflop and have Hero folding incorrectly.

If you call preflop a lot of villains will at least 2nd barrel worse hands before giving up. You can still use your position to see a SD cheaply and/or fold to a 2nd or 3'rd barrel, again 3-betting makes it more difficult to get away from the hand postflop.

I like 3-betting LAGs but against a straightfoward TAG I would rather just call. For obvious reasons I think calling is much better with A3 than with AJ.

villain was probably looking for a heart, so i'd say, hindsight being 20/20, that a raise on the flop was in order. He'd probably have paid to see the turn.. so you missed a bet.
