Re: Dell notebooks
I have an Inpirion 6000 and I love it. For desktops I'm usually anti-Dell, but for laptops (nongaming) I usually recommend Dells to my friends because of the accidental coverage they have. Most of my friends have kids, or like to party, so being able to replace their lappy for whatever reason is appealing. The main reason I went Dell was I got it during their 50% off promo a few years ago.
If you go Dell I would suggest waiting a month or so....until they start doing their xmas holiday sales. Usually they will have huge coupon discounts available at places like Fatwallet. ($500+ off) If you are looking at a gaming notebook, I would look at Sager and compare them to Falcon/AW. Sager should be significantly cheaper for the same comp. |

What else would you suggest? My next computer will be a desktop and would have gone with Dell as the laptop has run great. |

Re: Dell notebooks
Why are these notebooks relatively inexpensive? Is it really dumb to buy one to play online poker with?

You may not be very happy with the performance or resolution of that machine. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah you are going to want at least 1680x1050. With this resolution you can 4 table with a bit of top/bottom overlap. [ QUOTE ] Why are you against Dell desktops? What else would you suggest? My next computer will be a desktop and would have gone with Dell as the laptop has run great. [/ QUOTE ] I agree I love my Dell laptop, but if I were going desktop I would go with Cyberpower PC. Main reason is in a desktop I would be going with a gaming machine. Dell uses their own form factor for their cases, and use some of their own proprietary hardware...like their MB, so upgrading/replacing something like the MB could be an issue if you want to go with something other than Dells. Also for the price of the XPS i can get a better/cheaper machine than Dell. A friend of mine who builds his own comps bought a cyberpower recently because when he added up the parts, they were just a little over what he could've gotten them for. The neg with Cyberpower is their CS is horrible. |

Re: Dell notebooks
I've played on an Inspiron 9400 with Core 2 Duo processor and 1920x1200 Ultrasharp WUXGA screen for more than 6 months now.
It's VERY cool. |

Re: Dell notebooks
I had a Sager. Thing weighed a ton, fan was very noisy and it ran super hot. More a desktop replacement then a legitimate laptop.
With that said though, it ran faster and better then my desktop computer, just wasn't very practical to use for traveling. |

Thats why I bought a Dell laptop when they did the 50% off promo...the Sager stays at home. Any desktop replacement/gaming laptop is going to be pretty much the same though. |
