I only noticed today that while the line for first half NCAAB totals are usually less than 50 percent of that for the game total, the opposite seems to be true for NBA games.

Is there a non-statistical explanation for this? I mean, is intentional fouling by the trailing team in the 4Q less frequent in the pros?

[/ QUOTE ]

The shorter shot clock in the NBA makes it more appealing not to foul, for one thing. Paradoxically, NBA teams are better at milking the clock when they are ahead. They are better at creating a good shot at the end of the shot clock with a one-one move, so they don't have to worry about that. These are just my hunches.

That makes some sense.

We both have GB open for this week's game. He does not have Indy available, I do. I'm leaning towards Packers (at home vs CAR) over Indy (at home vs KC) this week, then using Indy (on road against ATL) next week. Should I use Indy this week? Or another team altogether? I'm thinking he will also use Green Bay this weekend... thanks for any advice.

I've never played in a survivor pool before, but why not the Eagles this week? I'd save the Colts until Harrison returns and we know how good their defense is without Freeney. Then again, the Colts may be your best option next week. Either them or the Cardinals (especially if Dilfer is still starting for the 49ers).

Thanks for responding. Two fears about betting Philly this weekend, both of which I know are very irrational:

1. I don't like going against winless teams this late in a season. I feel like if they have a team close, the winless team is going to scratch and claw a lot more desperately for a win than the other team would. Plus I think Miami has kept it close in many of their losses this season.

2. New starting QB (John Beck) for the Dolphins, which is also the reason I'd like to avoid the Colts (going against Croyle instead of Huard) and take the Packers (going against one of either Testaverde or Carr). I feel like QB changes are kinda red flags, since one really doesn't know what to expect, especially from a guy with no experience like Beck.

Naj,

I just assumed you'd delve in the shoe box packed full of Benjies like the rest of us do instead of bothering with these alleged "markers".

Side note: When you run a bar with multiple physical bars make sure that you put drinks on the correct tab. If someone can explain how 1 scotch and soda, 2 gin and tonics, 1 bottle crappy pinot, 3 shots, and whatever else I ordered after I blacked out equals ~25 bucks I'd be interested in having you do my taxes.

You were in a casino. LDO. Drinks are usually $2. You get used to it after a while.

I'll do your taxes!

Actually I was in a new bar in Auburn: In Italy. (On a more different note anyone who has been to a "club" in Italy will tell you that this place does not resemble it at all. It is exactly what a bunch of frat daddies want to imagine Italy as, but it bears as much resemblance to a real club in Italy as Orange soda does to actual oranges.) It was kinda nice and somewhat trashy and incredibly packed on Wed night. Girls were hot as is std at SEC venues.

On a plus... I did manage to close my tab, so it seems I have hard wired tab closing and retrieving my CC into the deepest recesses of my brain.

Quick fin note for noobs:

a) carrying stax of cash is bad
i) Pays you no interest
ii) subject to theft, fire, & drunken forgetfulness,
iii) subject to confiscation by IRS, DEA, and ATF and local law enforcement.
iv) harder to keep track of sources/uses of $$$

b) Casino Credit lines are good!
i) Interest free loan from Big Corporation
ii) don't have to repay for 14-30 days
iii) if flat or up simply buyback marker
iv) avoids all ATM fees
v) full use of ATM for 'other' activities still possible, or also to buyback marker before leaving.

Float on, say, $10-50k + interest not paid on borrowings = siriis bidness!

I've only been to Italy 3x, but I'd love to see a 'real' Italian bar in Auburn. haha.

Come to LV in March for 1st week of Madness Wed-Sun. 2nd biggest w/e of year and insanely bad, drunken SB gamb00lers at pokah tables all bluffing their stax off at msnl.
