My guess is that you lack fundamentals. You are either too loose or too tight, too aggressive or too passive. Not value betting enough, calling down too much. Cold calling preflop too much.

When you play a hand you need to be thinking of how much money you are going to be making or losing on average.

Calling a raise preflop is probably going to be a leak unless you know how to play it postflop. Are you calling to hit a pair and call down against an aggressive opponent? Do you think your opponent has a big pocket pair and your'e trying to hit a huge flop and fold if you hit just 1 pair? Are you calling to make moves against a very predictable opponent?

You need to know why you are doing what you are doing. And not [censored] reasoning, only pure logic.

First of all, you need to realize that there are far more losers than winners. And its possible that you can't beat the game, but I doubt it. You probably have leaks.

1. Buy pokertracker and PAHUD. Choose a site that offers the best combo of bonuses, rakeback,weak opposition and pokertracker compatibility.

2. get a bankroll of about 30 buyins for whatever level you are going to start at, and start at a level you both afford and have a reasonable liklihood of beating. I know you need 20, but the 10 is for pissing away on bad play.

3. Play only one table to begin. If you cannot beat a level single tabling it, you will be a multitabling disaster. After you gain confidence and can beat the game for more than 5ptbb/100, add tables as comfortable.

4. Constantly review your stats and hand histories. Compare you stats to those of other winning players, but realize that you can't copy someone else's game, but you can and must learn from others.

5. Adding tables and moving up limits is a hit or miss proposition based on your comfort levels and abilities.

The fact that you play powerball is irrelevant. Good luck.

No, but someone who knows they are -EV and buys them over and over again does. Maybe not a huge problem (yet), but certainly a problem.

I think almost everyone who plays powerball has some awareness that they are -EV even if they aren't familiar with that term.
They buy them and say, "I know I'm never going to win this thing."

You seem to be saying that the only regular powerball ticket purchasers who do not have gambling problems are the ones who are too stupid to realize they are a bad bet.

You act like OP buys these all the time and can't help himself.
He says he plays powerball 'occasionally' when he said that he never gambles on -EV games anymore EXCEPT for that.

Spending $2-$3 a week on powerball tickets does not mean he has a gambling problem.

I don't normally play -EV games either and I hate the freaking lottery. But occasionally when my GF and I are at a casino we will play roulette or 3-card poker even though I know they are -EV because she likes playing those games.
FWIW, she understands they are negative expectation games as well.

Are we both gambling addicts? I guess we better seek help because we have lost way more than $2-$3 on those stupid games.
