Default John From Cincy Thread for 08/05

Casting Howard Hessman in this show basically had to happen. Now I only hope for Venus Flytrap to show up.

The Doctor is killing it. That dude is acting the [censored] out of this show, as is Butchie.

Sissy was almost tolerable.

I want to ask Paul Ben Victor who was a better boss, The Greek or The Hawaiian.

I might be the only person, but I love the confusion. Lord I hope this makes it to a second season.

I think Sissy seemed more tolerable because she got all her spazzy freakouts over with within the first 10 minutes. They also cleverly used music in her searching scenes.

I thought this was one of the better episodes. Probably because it focused on the better characters (basically the hotel residents) and less on the likes of Sissy, Kai, Shaun, and Kass.

big lol @ bill checking the food before letting them enter the house.

From hbo.com's "Inside the Episode":

The Freddy Bear

The bad-ass teddy bear that Palaka gives to Freddy, who in turn gives it to Barry, was brought to the set by an old surf bud of JFC co-creator Kem Nunn a few days before this episode began shooting. Kem's friend, John Crotwell, also built the strange wave-shaped car driven by the Chemist (aka Erlemeyer, played by Howard Hesseman). Crotwell is a serious surfer and a true character. He's customized a few of those traffic-stopping wave cars for personal use over the years, and still spends weeks at a time in Baja looking for waves.

Anyway, Crotwell visited the set in Imperial Beach one day carrying this stuffed bear that he'd just found at a garage sale or something. The bear wore shades and a leather jacket with the letters "FTW" on the back. (A side note: "FTW" can stand for many things, but in this case it's probably safe to assume it's the vulgar acronym favored by biker gangs: "F**k the World.") As soon as he saw the bear, Milch offered to buy it from Crotwell, and immediately began concocting ways to insert it into the show as a foil for Teddy, the bear belonging to Barry Cunningham (Matt Winston), the homosexual owner of the Snug Harbor Motel.

I'm more excited to see what Evil Bear has in store, than anything else that we're waiting to happen.

Also, that shot of the porn chick's ass at the beginning had me frantically rewinding and pausing. My word.

it's weird... I've "given up" on this show about 2 episodes ago, but I keep watching them.

The [censored] with John and Shaun is pissing me off.

The bar thing is the only thing that I'm dying to have explained. I don't get it at all. Not even in a "this will get explained later" sense. I'm still loving the show though, it was by far the best thing on HBO last night with those lame eps of FotC and Entourage.
