cash and its not even close

I'm reminded of the quote from Doyle Brunson, from a WSOP a couple of years ago, who remarked to a fellow bragging about a bracelet he had won in some minor NLH event:

"Son, you and about 30 other people won one of those this year."

I believe the whole concept of "I'd rather have a title than the money" in poker is a misapplied parroting of what professional athletes say when asked this question.

Let's face it, in the NFL each year there's only one Super Bowl. In this year's WSOP, there were 50+ bracelet events. Bracelets, IMO, are devalued merely by their abundance.

The Main Event bracelet is a slightly different case because it does represent the "trophy" for the mythic "World Championship of Poker". However, if this forum is any indication, winning the ME (at least recently) doesn't earn you any more respect in the poker community at large.

Money is really the only true gauge of long-term success in poker. Like strength or speed in pro sports, either you have it or you don't; if you don't, you can't play. Simple as that, really.

Unfortunately, if she's fat and ugly, she'll get only marginally more attention than a man.

As a general rule, people who play poker for reasons other than money are losing players.

if the title helped me leverage deals or opportunities, that made more than the money, maybe.

Money all day long. Bracelet don't mean [censored]. I'd rather be the richest poker player than the most bracelet winner anytime of the day.

[/ QUOTE ]

Winning bracelets opens the doors for lucrative endorsement deals. I figure that if you win like 25 bracelets, you could pick up a like a 200k/yr deal. So, it sort of goes hand in hand if you think about it.

25 bracelets and a 200k/yr deal?

lol ya right a crazy high amount like 200k. more like 50k dude.

I challenge anyone saying they'd want the title to get in that situation and say it again...I dare you.

Don't you play poker to make money? I do, so money and I don't care about a bracelet anyway, I only play poker to make money and don't care about any fame or something.

Trust me; if you are the winningest player in poker as far as the money goes, fame and respect will follow.

pretty sure OP made this post with the assumption of just the prestiege of having the title.. not endorsement funds and such. If his friend said the title because its worth more money than the cash prize thats diff, but his friend just seems like a moron that wants the bracelet. Hence the OP mentioned the friend being broke with bills.
