Default Fold this set in tilt 50k?

Villain is 17/8/4 over 123. He's been quiet for a while. I've been somehwat active.

Me: 16,200
Him: 17,100

Blinds 200/400 with 50 ante. Villain is MP1, hero is MP2 with 88.

Preflop: Folds to MP1, MP1 raises to 1600, hero calls, all others fold.

Flop: 4 T Q rainbow (4000ish)
MP1 checks, hero checks.

Turn: 8, full rainbow
MP1 checks, hero bets 2400, MP1 raises to 4800, hero wants to die.

Okay i know that every other day i make some absurd post about getting min raised and wanting to fold a giant hand and its like "dude, stop being results oriented, u know this [censored]."

Well yes, i know some [censored]. But the [censored] i know tells me this:

People like to 4X mid pairs, such as say 88-QQ. Sure they could do it with KK/AA but that makes zero sense here because he's checked twice on a board that should give him action.

Now on flop he checks, then checks again on turn, then min raises me. I can't imagine him doing this with JJ/99, and TT/QQ are very likely to be 4X'd pre.

I don't seem him 4Xing 44 in this early of position, so my having the overset seems unlikely.

The [censored] i know is that: His hand makes zero sense for anything outside a set.

Can i drop it? Blasphemy?

I would never fold here. Fold preflop if you are going to fold this type of hand.
