Re: *** Official NY Mets Our OFFSEASON Has Come Thread ***

but i'm guessing minaya will sign an older vet like a livan hernandez, colon, or God forbid weaver to appease the fans [/ QUOTE ] Signing any of these guys would not appease any Mets fan I think. Minaya can appease this fan by building a good bullpen and trading for a #1 or #2 type starter (younger than 30) to compliment Pedro, Maine, Perez, Duque/Pelfrey/Humber. |

Re: *** Official NY Mets Our OFFSEASON Has Come Thread ***
it's going to be hard to trade for a 1 or 2 given the cruddy FA market and that figures to have some stiff competition to trade for a starter, let alone a front line one...it might not make the fans happy, but minaya might not be able to do much this offseason
do u guys think milledge's value went up or down after this year?? he was really touted last year, not sure how his image has changed to other teams though in terms of a trade... i don't see enough chips to land a top notch starter, so i guess minaya will have to pry away decent/avg 3's away from other teams...dontrelle willis's stock must have dropped a ton, but who knows... trading for a reliever can be costly in terms of talent, especially since schoenwuss will be back next year as the lefty specialist... |

that's $47.2 salary total for 08 (assuming glavine gets bought out)...no way do the mets spend that much this summer, so when santana and i think peavy among others hit FA after next year, the mets should be aggressive players with enough space... i hate giving up on this offseason, but i think signing linebrink and getting some stopgap relievers is really the best the mets can do here imo...and try to save up and get younger pitching for the future coz this rotation can easily fall apart and give even fewer innings...it's really vulnerable as is and then pedro and duque will be gone after next year, well at least duque will... [/ QUOTE ] Collpase in 07 New Stadium in 09 Mets will spend money this year. Probably via trades |

What do you think would have happened this year if the Mets were the team that won the Dice-K bidding?

with our luck, prolly the same thing that happened to kaz...
bah, on a serious note though, i dunno, that's a lot of money for someone who is unproven at the MLB level...i'd have a tough time taking on a contract and can see why the mets backed down... |

We'd also probably be in the playoffs if Brian Bannister was our 5th starters and not: Sosa, Pelfrey, Lawrence, Vargas, Williams, CHP & Humber. Star Ledger Mets Blogger Ryan McConnell actually wrote about the Mets #5 starters this morning. ....Really though almost every team could say this about their #5 starters. |
