[ QUOTE ]
In 2004 he wasn't just "very good." He was absolutely incredibly amazing, posting the 3rd highest DPAR for a QB in this century and the highest for any QB not named Peyton Manning. Nearly 70% completion percentage yet 8.6 Y/A? 41 TDs to 11 picks and 5123 total yards? We're talking about one of the greatest seasons from a QB ever that only got overshadowed because Peyton Manning had THE greatest season ever.

[/ QUOTE ]

Blah blah blah. If Tom Brady puts up Culpepper's 2004 numbers for the rest of the season, he'll be a big disappointment according to Patriots fans.

Seriously though, I remember thinking at the time that Culpepper's season was not all that much worse than Manning's. It's easy to forget how good he was.

And for those that are wondering, yes, Brady is on pace to blow the DPAR record out of the water as well.

actually, you could use it as the only piece of evidence to determine who the better hitter is, and be correct.

(do you know that eqa just measures hitting, nothing else?)

[/ QUOTE ]

Do you know that was my point? That no amount of defensive ability can close the gap? wowurbad.

[ QUOTE ]
and that is a giant difference between baseball analysis and football analysis. in baseball, a huge % of the game comes down to the confrontation between hitter and pitcher, which can be analyzed very effectively. there is nothing that simple to analyze in football, b/c your teammates have a far, far greater effect on your play than in baseball.

[/ QUOTE ]

You said absolutely nothing in that paragraph. Congratulations.

[ QUOTE ]
probably the worst thing about the advanced metrics is some peoples inability to understand them, but yet they use them as gospel in inappropriate situations.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's a good thing I've never used them as gospel, then. Since the baseball point flew way over your head, I'll do your work for you -- something you're undoubtedly used to -- and spell it out: no differential in teammates would be enough to close an astronomical gap between two players' DPAR / DVOA in any given season. kthxbai

If he's close with a couple of games to go he'll get it. NE returners will start taking a knee at the 1 to give Brady and Moss a longer field.

the last 2 games, and maybe 3, will likely be meaningless. that is going to slow some of this record setting down imo

So what happens if Brady doesnt break the TD record until week 17? I'm anticipating most people saying mindless things like "a record is a record" but really, he pretty much has to get it done by week 16 doesnt he? Peyton didnt play the last game.
