Hand 1. I call this here as well. Others will limp behind come along as was the case, it will be raised behind as well in which case you will have another desission to make.

Calculating your equity gain here is not so good as this is probably the max equity you gain, MP3 stragely left some dead money in the pot on the turn. In general you will double up but you will also only get times where you pick up the pot without any extra chips post flop. I think the best way to calculate this is to find the aveage gain from all your sets in PT and work from there.

Hand 2. This is an unexpliotable push.

Hand 1 is fine and hand 2 is a clear push - but hand 2 has nothing to do with this thread because it wasn't early and you had <10BB, so set mining is out of the question.

In hand 1, if someone had reraised behind, you would need to fold because the implied odds disappear, but it's fine to call a small amount for the chance to win a lot - especially in the first level when the chips invested are pretty trivial. Folding these for <7% of your stack early is a waste IMO - at the lower buy-ins especially, because reraises preflop are rarer, multiple callers behind are commoner and people routinely stack off with a flush draw let alone TPTK or an overpair.

Ugh... I took to long to reply or something and it deleted my post.

Summary - Hand 1: This hand was played very poorly by your opponents. I don't think this is typical, but it has been a while since I played (~9 months) so I could be way off the mark. I think that in most cases your "come alive" turn bet is too big and you will get two folds.

What is MP3 calling your 425 bet with, but is folding to when he is getting almost 4:1 pot odds? Granted he is being pinched by BBs push and your call, but???

I don't like calling EP raises with small pockets from EP or MP because if somebody else raises behind you usually have to fold.

No, the 77 hand is even money most of the time at a 6.50. Folding isn't horrible.

Folding is fine, as 77 is exploitable. Against many ranges it's slightly minus EV. I'd say 88 is slightly above break even, 99 is probably unexploitable. I'm at work, but if someone runs it thru SNGWIZ, I think it'll agree with me.
