Too hot, too cold, or juuuust right?
15-30 online.
31/14 openraises in the SB, and I threebet 99 in the BB. He fourbets and I call. FLop T43, two clubs. bet raise threebet cap. Turn 4. check bet call. River 3c. He checks. I'm in this spot where I feel like if I bet a loser, it's a totally idiotic bet. And if I check a winner (where he has a calling hand), it's also totally idiotic. Needless to say, I did the idiotic thing. But what SHOULD have I done? Josh |

Re: Too hot, too cold, or juuuust right?
i don't know much about playing heads up, but this seems like a lot of action for 99 here...do you think this guy will 3bet the flop w/ overs out of position against all the preflop aggression?
on the river im checking thru, i really don't see a worse hand paying off a bet, if he was playing broadway clubs he got there, if he has a hand like AT/KT then hes calling, can 88 really call a bet here (although i assume he would since he got to the river)? I do think an overpair would put in a bit more action since he really only has TT to fear, what is your image like? meh, i check the river and cross my fingers... (sorry for the stream of consciousness post, hope there is something decent in it)... |

Re: Too hot, too cold, or juuuust right?
I agree with the others here. Once he three bets the flop after all that preflop action I am pretty certain he is going to show this down. If he has overcards you really can't protect your hand and if he hits his 6 outer so be it. You have position so you just make sure a bet goes in on each of the big streets. I really like letting him keep the lead since I really think that if more than one bet goes in on either the turn or river it is very likely that I lose.

I like your play and I value bet the river.

Re: Too hot, too cold, or juuuust right?
Do you fold if he checkraises the river Josh? I think this is a tought spot but I would expect a bet here to be slightly positive in the long run. Unfortunately two of the hands you beat improved on the river (clubs and A3) and a third one got there on the turn (A4, which is unlikely since he didn't go for three bets on the turn). I would bet here since they will call you with so much, really the only two hands you should be worried about are jacks and A10. If he has A3 or clubs then you just gotta make sure you fold to his checkraise. Hope it went well.

Re: Too hot, too cold, or juuuust right?
I would not value bet the river, although I would have bet if the flush draw had not come in. This is a two-way scare card, which both decreases the probability that you're ahead, and decreases the possibility that he makes a loose calldown. Plus I think there's a reasonable chance that you've been behind the whole way to begin with.
I agree with the others that the flop is a bit overplayed, unless you have a history of going at warp speed v this opponent. Although, the 4-bet cap online is really forgiving to the opponent with position in this spot. |
