Default Bad sound drivers

Hey guys i was hoping someboby here might be able to help me out.I just bought a new set of speakers for my laptop, the old ones worked fine they just weren't very loud.
When i try to use the new speakers the volume icon disappears and i get a pop up saying 'Bad direct sound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration.Error code:88780078'
Anydody know anything about this and know how to fix it?
BTW ive installed latest version of Directx and still nothing.ty

1. Winamp
2. Ctrl+P (for preferences)
3. Plug-ins > Output
4. double click 'DirectSound output'
5. Driver tab
6. make sure the device in the drop-down list correctly reflects your soundcard

Further DirectSound config tweaks....

-and/or-

1. Control Panel
2. Sounds & Audio Devices icon (or MultiMedia Icon)
3. Audio tab
4. in 'Sound playback' make sure the 'Default device:' drop-down box correctly reflects your soundcard

Although it's not necessary, close down Winamp, Windows and reboot the computer after making any of the above changes.

No dice? Make sure the sound drivers and/or DirectX are up to date.

-this is for winamp but the 2nd one should work hopefully

... In other words make sure that your sound card is correctly selected as default because new speakers (unless they came with software) should not be cause this.

Ty for the reply mate ive tried all of these. The windows audio was already turned on,when i go to 'direct sound output' in winamp it says 'primary sound driver.'
When i go control panel>sounds>sound playback it says their is no default device but it wont allow me to select one. I think this is the problem right here but im not sure what to do?
Also if i unplug the new speakers and plug in the old ones they work right away?
