Zone Alarm
Just started using it recently and not sure what to allow. I keep having something called "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" pop up. Do I want this to connect to the internet? Also is there any reason for my PosgreSQL Database Backend to be trying to connect. Thx

Re: Zone Alarm
Yeah, ZoneAlarm can be a pain that way. I got it two weeks ago.
Generic host processes is safe to allow, though if you block it things will still work most of the time. Just permanently allowing it is easier and safe, it's a core component of the operating system and ZoneAlarm checks its MD5 hash each time to make sure it hasn't been tampered with. PostgreSQL operates a server on the local machine. It shouldn't be trying to access the internet but it will need the "trusted zone" so it can communicate with other programs. Programs that use PostgreSQL will also need to be given access to the trusted zone so they can communicate with the server. There's no security risk here. BTW if postgreSQL doesn't work or gives errors you may need to manually give the backend server rights to access the trusted zone. Just open program control in Zonealarm, and turn the ? into a tick to allow access to the trusted zone. None of these programs require internet access though so just block if they ask |

Re: Zone Alarm
if you arent sure what something is, you can google it.
you can also block it, and as long as everything functions, it is fine. I block a lot of windows stuff. |
