King Yao vs Matthew Hilger's book on odds

I have just studied King Yao's book: "Weighing the odds in Hold'em poker". Matthew Hilger's book on odds and probability looks very similar. I don't know if I should buy it after already having studied King Yao's book, because they might be very similar in content.

edit: I think I'll buy it anyway, but I still like to hear opinions comparing both books.

Casino, I haven't read Weighing the Odds but I have skimmed it. Weighing the Odds is a Limit book. Texas Hold'em Odds basically has three sections: one on Limit, one on NL, and one with stats and charts (most useful for NL).

If you are primarily a Limit player and have already read Weighing the Odds, my book won't add too much to what you probably already know unless you are one of those people who like to know lots of stats. The main focus of my book is to help people who struggle with pot odds and implied pot odds, and how to use those to determine when you should draw and how you should protect your hand - for both limit and NL.

Matthew, thanks for replying. I am playing both NL and fixed limit and I am very interested in the subject of using mathematics in poker, that's probably enough reason to buy your book. I am also looking for a book that explains counting partial outs in more detail. There are a few pages on this in SSHE, but does your book go in more depth on this subject?

Internet texas holdem by matthew and hold em on the come by rolf slotboom talk about counting partial outs, but i cant remember if it is in more detail than the information in SSHE.

They are two different types of book. King Yao's book is more on basic strategy, like HEFAP or LLHE by Lee Jones.

Hilger's book is mostly about poker math, like outs,pot odds, etc. If you are looking for a HE math book, you might also try Hold Em's Odds Book by Mike Petriv.

I haven't read the book but I am pretty sure the other guy, Dew Mason wrote the book and then Rolf added some comments and other things later. But Rolf is the name player so he ends up getting credited for writing the book.

My terminology is "discounted outs" which is what I call a "dout" - the same thing as partial outs. The main emphasis in the limit section is looking at how to discount outs.
