Gambling Theory and other Topics: thoughts?
Is it worth buying for a player looking to improve his poker play and is interested in the "science" of betting?

Re: Gambling Theory and other Topics: thoughts?
"The only games that can be beat are non-self-weighting games where successful non-self-weighting strategies exist."
I really liked this book. Before I had read it I thought I understood many of the concepts that are in the book. After reading it I realized I was just reciting one-liners I had heard on 2+2 without really understanding what they truly meant or how to use them. That above quote is from the book and probably the most important concept to understand imo. It seems simple but it is not for most of us average gamblers. The book does have a little math in it but that is just to prove to the reader that Mason is right. The book also has some fun topics in it. Part Six : Gambling Fantasy balances the book and makes it more enjoyable to read. Mason is a funny guy and I might be mistaken but many of the ideas he covers in this book were original and his and his alone when he fist wrote the book. But have since been widely accepted and proven correct. People have just forgotten who said it first. I don't think he gets enough credit for this book. |
