T $20,000 starting for ME

Anyone else notice this? This is the first year the main event will use $20,000 starting stacks, correct? Blinds start at 50/100 instead of 25/50, so it looks like the usual structure was just doubled. Anyone know why they did this? It's gonna make for some collosal chip stack #'s by the end...

This whole double chip stacks thing is pretty retarded.

Because starting with 10K chips in a 10K event is antiquated. 20K has become the industry standard. The only remarkable thing about it is that it represents a deviation from tradition, but so what.

They just want it to sound cool at the final table if someone has 100M in chips. This means they'll get to break out a 1M chip.

1. Its the WPT method

2. They couldn't have double chips in the preliminary events and not in the main event. Otherwise, the temptation to pocket chips in the prelims and bring them out in the main would be too great.

By the way, they didn't just double the chips and double the levels. They removed a level late in the tournament (level 27?) that was in the structure last year.

They want to color up the green chips on day 1 so that day 1 will last even longer.

The $10k NLH Championship (ME) now includes a 50k/100k level (level#27) according to the WSOP website----looks like this level was added/corrected, and footnotes corrected, in the past week.

The updated structure is basically the same quality as last year, double starting chips with all blind levels doubled. (There may be some miniscule changes as the antes may not exactly double every level).
