[ QUOTE ]
OMG who's the best $5 SnG player? I have to know now! [/ QUOTE ] [image][/image] "Wow, daveT, how do you do so well at the $5 SNGs?" --Shocked And Pwned. Well SAP, you are in luck, as I just started writing a manuscript entititled: "Embracing your innner Donkey. How to destroy and slackjaw the average, drunk, idiot, luckbox using effective bad plays." Chapter One. --"Do not play like a total [censored] idiot." There are several degrees of players: complete moron, donkey-brain, and actual retard. Actually, there are several gradations to these levels, and I will get into how to destroy these kinds of players later on. What is important to know is that an actual retard has a better chance than a complete [censored] idiot. With proper table selection a total retard could expect about 2% edge. --Suited cards are the nuts. All the TV pros will tell you that playing too many suited cards is a huge leak. Well, they are wrong. Actually, they are lying. They make their money of poorly guided automatons that listen to them spout. It does not favor their interest to tell you the truth. Take T2 offsuit, a very popular hand. Well, I will take T2 suited and race this all day. --Poker rewards bad play. I know that this sounds contradictory, but the underlying concept is that you are not supposed to play as bad as your opponent. While it is okay to play like a moron, just remember that you are skating a thin line. Also, poker is all about the suck-out. The player that sucks out the most is going to win more pots, and that is the point of poker. -- Poker is a joke. If you ever sat in a B&M casino, you have heard people grumble about how this or that is a [censored] joke. Well, there right. The key to understanding this is to know that the poker gods love a good practical joke. They get a gas out of you when you push all in pre-flop with aces to get called by Q8 off-suit. While you sit back proud, the flop comes up QQQ. I find this stuff funny. I can't help laughing. The poker gods appreciate it when you appreciate their humor. They will invite you to the "in" crowd, ie, the winning player crowd. You want to be "in," I assume, or you wouldn't have paid $100 to read this book. I will go further to say that it is very hard to be in the "in" crowd. Every one will look at you like you are a stupid hyena for laughing at suck-out after suck-out. You will find a lot of discrimination from these players, but I have dedicated a 50 page chapter to dealing with discrimination (pg 246-296) -- Putting it all together. The above may sound contradictory or counter intuitive, especially if you have been reading all those "other" books. To illustrate my own expert thinking, I present to you the following hand: Poker Stars, $5 + $0.25 NL Hold'em Tournament, 10/20 Blinds, 2 Players LegoPoker Hand History Converter BB: 1,110 Hero (SB): 1,890 You see it, is early in the tournament, and I am whuppin' that ass. Pre-Flop: (30) 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] dealt to Hero (SB) Hero raises to 60, BB raises to 100, Hero calls 40 POSITION is first in all considerations of a hand. You have to ask yourself, do I have position? This pretty easy to figure out as there is a little button that says you ask last. Position is mandatory. All players, no matter how bad, knows that position is a good thing. They may not know why, they just know postion is a a good thing, okay? Suited cards are the nuts, remember. Also note that he raised. Let me guess, uh? Face cards? Flop: (200) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 3 (2 Players) BB bets 260, Hero calls 260 I am willing to bet dollars to donuts that I do NOT have the best hand right now. But I call because I see love in my hand, and love on the board. Turn: (720) 9 (2 Players) BB checks, Hero checks Aggression: Every moron in the world knows that aggression is a good thing. The constant and AGGRESSIVE checking is ensuring that my opponent will catch a free card to beat me. River: (720) 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players) BB bets 750 and is All-In, Hero calls 750 Discipline: I knew the other day that damn nut-peddler had an Ace-high flush, did I fold? Of coarse not. I just don't have the discipline to lay down a flush, a straight, a full house, a set, top pair, middle pair, or even Queen high. Results: 2,220 Pot BB showed A Q (high card Ace) and LOST (-1,110 NET) Hero showed 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (a flush, King high) and WON 2,220 (+1,110 NET) There is a such thing as a good bluff, and a such thing as a bad bluff. I am sure that this guy was going to show off his amazing "bluffing skillz" when I folded my monster holding. But he bluffed into the very hand he was representing. Even a total retard knows better than that. |

Re: *****October LC Thread: LIMCASH is the new NLCASH*****
Just played a LONG session of just over 2hrs of NL Cash.
Not saying it wasnt fun, but sweet jesus i felt like crap at the lowest point - i even pondered quiting him when I got just over even but decided to play it to the point he quit me. He had tonnes of leaks - the amount of times i floated him with pure air to then bluff him when he shutdown was pretty sick - he also loved to shove any time i showed strength. The downswing represents missing huge draws against him and putting the chips in +EV. The upswing is me not getting sucked out on. Im just so happy the guy didnt quit me when he peaked the 3rd time he sucked out on me - credit to him, he let me win it back and then some. |
