Bad Bad Hand
I think I played this hand badly, but it must just be in retrospect.
10 handed $15-$30 at the Bellagio. Tight, mid aged asain man raises UTG. I can't tell if he's good or not because he just doesnt play that many hands. That being said, he 3 barreled an ace high flush draw a few hadns before- it missed and he got called down by bottom pair- so that hand was in my head. I cold call in the BB with A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Flop is 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I check, call turn is 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] I check, call River is K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I grit my teeth and check, call Thoughts on this weak ass play? |

Re: Bad Bad Hand
It's not a cold-call when you put in 1 SB to call a raise from the BB.
You might consider checkraising the flop or the turn. |

Re: Bad Bad Hand
There shouldn't be a "consider" about it. chk/rz this turn EVERY SINGLE TIME!

Re: Bad Bad Hand
I think that you're right,PJ.
I also think that donking the flop is better than check/calling. |

Re: Bad Bad Hand
Didnt mean to say cold call. You think the pre-flop call is ok? I almost mucked it then.
I really wanted to chekc raise the turn, but I didnt want to get 3-bet with so many outs- which i guess is counter-intuitive. |

Re: Bad Bad Hand
Yeah, but if I donk the flop and he raises, do I gotta fold?

Yeah, but if I donk the flop and he raises, do I gotta fold? [/ QUOTE ] because he never raises there with AK? |

Re: Bad Bad Hand
No, thats my point. Im pretty sure he raises AK if I donk the flop. So his raising range would be basically any overpair and AK and maaaybe AQ. Which I think means I have to fold. I played this hand too passively because I didnt want to be raised off the best hand.

Re: Bad Bad Hand
I don't get what your problem is. First of all, this is limit. If you don't want to fold, you don't have to. Secondly, if you're aware that he will likely raise the flop with AK/AQ, then there is no problem, right? bet/3bet or bet/call/donk the turn. Playing in such a way so as not to gain information which might tell you it is best to fold is silly. If you want to play the flop passively, that's fine. Check/raising the turn really isn't debateable - do this every time. You have 14 outs when behind meaning about 27% equity. Which means, even if you're behind, you get back a little more than half the money you put in the pot. But the cool thing is, you're not behind a good percentage of the time. Personally, I think you are ahead on the turn around 60% of the time, but if you get out your handy-dandy 5dimes or pokerstove calculator and plug in his range, you can figure out for sure. Hell, I'm bored. I'll do it for you.
I give him an UTG open range of top 6.5%. Board: 9c 2d 5d 3s Dead: Hand 0: 30.932% { 88+, ATs+, KQs, AQo+ } Hand 1: 69.068% { Ad9d } or, 6 combos of KK-TT each, one of 99, 3 of AA means 28 hands ahead of you. 12 each for AQ/AK(24), 3 each ATs-AJs (6), 4 for KQs, 6 for 88 = 40 hands behind you. 40/68 = you are winning 59% of the time if neither of you improve on the river. AND!!! I bet you he open raises AJo, 77, and KQo some portion of the time as well. |

Re: Bad Bad Hand
CSC, you are assuming he bets that whole range on the turn and I don't think he does. I dislike a turn checkraise but think a flop checkraise is standard.
