Default # of tables question for the forum

After a discussing with Tongni yesterday about multitabling and winrate, I'm beginning to question my own decision to 6-8 table the mid-limit the 6max games (30/60-50/100) once I start playing almost full time.

I've been thinking a lot about my past successes and failures in poker, and everything seems to point to playing less tables. Essentially, every good run I can think of has occurred during periods when I've chosen to play 3-4 tables MAX (including my insane runs at 300/600 and 500/1000) and my long breakeven stretches seem to correspond to the times when I start running bad, and decide to start "grinding": 8 tabling 30/60 full, or 6+ tabling shorthanded games, etc.

This can of course be due to coincidence. Actually, I feel like I play just as well when playing 6+ tables vs 4 tables, and get pretty bored doing the latter. (PS: if anyone has seen me playing 6-8tabling 6max on stars 10/20-30/60, what do you think of my play? Do you ever feel like I make obviously poor decisions as a result of multitabling?)

So my question here is for all you SHLHE players: how many tables do you play?

I've also decided to start posting in MHSH and SSSH. I'm taking next quarter of classes very light and will have lots of time to devote to poker. Improving my game hasn't been a priority for the past 5 or 6 months and I think that has been detrimental to my game.

I've been playing 4, sometimes (but rarely) 5 lately, though one is usually HU or 2-3 handed and I like it a lot. I found playing 6 tables a little stressful and while the amount of hands/hour was greaters, i played a lot less and didn't play as well. I think I enjoy 4 more and that has done wonders for my winrate.

i am playing 4-table 6max 15/30 to 30/60. sometimes 5 tables if the games are really good(very rare). more tables will cause me to ignore a lot of details and actually decreases my win rate.

I can only manage 2 HU tables, maybe 3-4 3-4 handed tables, and 5-7 5+ handed tables. How shorthanded the game is makes a huge impact on whether I can really multitable them.

When I used to play mostly 30/60 and 50/100 I could do 6 tables on Party or 5 tables on Stars no problem. Now that I play mostly 100/200 4 tables is my max.

It depends on how im feeling and the toughness/shorthandedness of the games but i've always been a 1-4 tabler (I play 20/40 mostly) and have always done well with this number of tables.

I also usually start out my session 1 tabling, sopmetimes this lasts for a long time.
I used to play like 4+ and i don't think I ever won doing that.

I max out at 2 tables. I'll sometimes only play one if it's HU. I find poker much more profitable and enjoyable if I play less tables.

That's just me though.

And OP, I don't think your observation about running better when playing fewer tables is not coincidence. I think multitabling, esp 4+ is HIGHLY overrated.

Bottom line is most cannot play 4+ tables profitably. Many think they can, few really can.

Just my .02

I three table usually, but there's usually a 3 or 4 handed table in there. 4 is my max for all 6 handed tables.

Edit/ I think 4 tabling on most sites is equivalent to 5 or 6 tabling on Party. Their software was excellent for multitabling, and all the other sites I've played on don't measure up(Admittedly not that many sites).
