Re: FLORIDA ALLOWING POKER GAME STAKES TO BE RAISED IN JULY!
You buy-in for 100 and your negative 100 until you cash out???
HUH? Sorry, I don't see it this way whatsoever. -FH- |

Re: FLORIDA ALLOWING POKER GAME STAKES TO BE RAISED IN JULY!
No need to be sorry. Just a difference of oppinion.
I guess I may have a difference philosophy to poker when I play. I play for fun. I take what I plan to lose (not that I always lose). So when I buy in for chips I assume I have already lost that money. Dont want to make it sound like Im a bad player I have played a lot of NL cash games and I think that for about a month or two people will have no idea what they are doing (specially the converted tournament players). When I sit at a table I would say Im on average the 6 or 7th best player (3 or 4 better than me). But I dont play with the intent of winning I have fun if I lose so be it. I was planning on it when I walked in. If I wanted to win I would invest in oil. |

Re: FLORIDA ALLOWING POKER GAME STAKES TO BE RAISED IN JULY!
This is like the players that are winning and stating they are "playing with the houses money".
This is just not the case...........when one has the money, it "is their money", not the casinos. -FH- |

Re: FLORIDA ALLOWING POKER GAME STAKES TO BE RAISED IN JULY!
I think that lots of people who play now and think they are good will retire from poker by the end of the summer, either from common sense or brokeness. Enjoy the soft play while you can.
I also think that when this soft time comes to an end that we might enter a sort of 'golden age" of FL poker. The number of players will decrease and legitimate competition among the facilities (at least here in Tampa and in Palm Beach/Broward) will increase. That will be truly a boon for folks like us. |

Re: FLORIDA ALLOWING POKER GAME STAKES TO BE RAISED IN JULY!
I guess I just thinking of it like investing (kind of sounds contradictory to my previous comment but..) I think of it as a fun way to invest in a pretty risky investment. Just like in stock you risk what you purchased it for and you only get the benefits when you sell it. I understand from an accounting standpoint this isnt always the case, but the majority of the time it is.

Re: FLORIDA ALLOWING POKER GAME STAKES TO BE RAISED IN JULY!
jasonfish11 - this still has nothing to do with the legalization of poker in Florida.
You can try taking your philosophy of "the money isn't really yours" to the beginners forum I guess. Perhaps some other forum would be more appropriate but I really don't know where this would fit. All - I agree that the first couple of months could be the bestest of them all. If the games are going to be good in spite of the structure (and I think they will be) then this will be the time. Although I have to be honest, I don't think they will get that horrible after that. They've been spreading no-limit in Tunica and Las Vegas and elsewhere for awhile now and it seems to take a bit for the games to settle down where all the players don't completely suck. But they should still be really donk-filled for the first couple/few months and then I think will continue to not be too shabby after that. Remember that as much as we hate the crappy $100 buy-in it should help to keep the bad players afloat for longer than they would in a higher buy-in game. That's very much the point on the capped buy-ins at NL games across the country. To help keep the fishier players from losing everything they have too quickly (Mason's essays and other stuff in B&M and NL forums address this). My GF heard back and got accepted for the job. She starts in Panama City on July 9. Looks like my timing to try to take advantage of the new Florida stakes will be near-perfect. Unfortunately, only 2 rooms anywhere near Panama City. Ebro is 15 minutes away. And one on the other side of Tallahassee which looks to be well over an hour away. So it's not like Tampa or Miami where you have rooms all over the place. I'm thinking that room-selection won't make that big a difference for the quality of the players. But if there's any variety in the games being spread and the rake-structure it would be nice to have more options like you will have down south. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the few options near me in the north are set up okay. |

Miami is a bit isolated from most poker rooms, but Fort Lauderdale is right in the middle of the action.

Re: FLORIDA ALLOWING POKER GAME STAKES TO BE RAISED IN JULY!
Yeah, I think of Miami/Ft. Lauderdale as being the same market. I know that's kind of stretching it out a bit but that's how I think of south Florida.
To my mind, I go all the way up to West Palm Beach and Jupiter as making up the northern edge of that region. |
