He was God eternal and just to become man is beyond understanding - a very poor analogy would be a human becoming a cockroach.

Isn't God aware of everything already? At best it's a symbolic gesture, like drowning the whole world to kill all the women and children.

As I type this there are people dying horrible deaths. They won't spend eternity as the son of god.
Time spent on earth is a nanoblink in the eternity in heaven ( as theists constantly remind us), so in the big scheme of things jesus lost a fingernail. No sweat.
To sacrifice something you have to actually give something up. Sending the kid for half an eternity in hell would have some sacrificial meaning, micro-nanoseconds on a cross is a walk in the park.

There are two options:

1) Finite period of sacrifice (practically non-existent meaningless period).

2) Infinite period of sacrifice

(Option three: "half" of eternity is meaningful (and understandable) to God, but we can't understand it)

The extreme majority of people who are (or claim to be) religious apparently have absolutely no grasp of finite vs infinite periods of time.

If a religious person understood "eternal," how can they possibly sin during this meaningless finite period?

Edit: Jesus sacrificed like a 5 year old eating broccoli once so they could eat ice cream forever. Luckyme, I supposed Jesus could spend one day in hell followed by one day in heaven ... in which case I could understand half an eternity of sacrifice.

I can understand it. Jesus spends half his time in hell, and half in heaven. He can alternate hours, years, etc. As long as he switches back and forth ad infinitum, he can spend half an eternity in each no problem.

I can understand it. Jesus spends half his time in hell, and half in heaven. He can alternate hours, years, etc. As long as he switches back and forth ad infinitum, he can spend half an eternity in each no problem.

In general, I can't really understand "half of an eternity."
