Default Re: How good is Harrington 3?

This book is OK for beginners but pretty bad for avg to good players. Harrington seems to think that there is only one correct way to play a hand, even though his lines are very weak tight and exploitable. I suggest you to pay more attention to what is said in the sklansky-miller one than this. I've only read some 60ish pages, but I've found plenty of common errors.

Hand 4 - leading the nut straight on the flop is perfectly fine. He gives no points for a bet.

Hand 5 - 66 on K72 flop. He discounts all other options than his weak tight line of betting little on the flop and checking it down if you don't improve. Note how this is his recommended line every single time when he doesn't have top pair or better. IE: firing flop, turn, and possibly river or checking flop are also good/better lines.

Hand 7 - J9 hand vs KK... again leading in to pf raiser on the flop is OK. Leading the turn for 1/2 the pot is definately better than checking. Also you have to make a larger river value bet than 3k into 8k with this hand.

Also, when he discusses raising a bunch of limpers from the blinds with KQ and talks about how he will do it with 9s and 8s sometimes shows he doesn't quite understand basic poker theory. Better to raise a complete trash hand like J2o than something like 88 here.
