yeah, or any of the other toothache things. the active ingredient you want is benzocaine. i had an abcessed tooth and used a ton of these.

Hmmm. I went with the alcohol root, the pain reached a new level a half hour ago, and I couldn't take it anymore. So I'm drinking RUM, which is good for the pain, with COKE, which is bad for the teeth. I think it's a great combo.

600-800 mg ibuprofen + Codeine is solid. Drinking + NSAID= Stomach/liver destruction. Don't OD on topical anesthetic, some chicks recently did this after wrapping their legs w/ plastic and using topical to prevent pain from hair removal surgery, obviously you shouldnt approach those levels. I know this. I am 4th yr dental student applying at the moment (working on my essay now) for an Endodontic residency (root canal specialists). Sorry about your pain.

Also Root canals are done under local anesthesia.

that combo really wasn't helping the pain...I didn't take my last dose of pain meds, deciding instead to go with the alcohol and its working better. Only 12 more hours till the root canal...I'm very excited.

Think I may have you beat.

Playing bball monday afternoon, go up for a rebound, some young guy (16-17) who is 6'4 goes up with me and hits me square in the mouth with his elbow, I mean HARD.

It sounded like a hole puncher going off. I go down. My two front teeth are wedged backwards in my mouth almost 90 degrees. Blood everywhere. I'm cursing up a storm (now with a lisp).

Anyways, the bone wasn't fractured (thank God) but I did lose one tooth. I am now toothless for a bit. I have to have a root canal Thursday on the tooth they saved (praying it does not die as well) and then get an impression made and get fitted with a temporary tooth until my mouth heals so they can put in a permanent implant.

I start b-school in August, let's hope things are squared away by then.

Anybody want pics? I'm doped up on hydrocodone (lortab) and can eat soup, applesauce, and maybe mashed potatoes. I'm pretty bummed.

On the plus side, I'm going to be playing a lot of poker, maybe I'll break through.

I lost a front tooth to an elbow playing pickup basketball several years ago. It turned out to be a good thing - I got my picket fence replaced with veneers from a dentist friend of mine. This came just a month or so after I had two root canals.

Well, the trauma from the injury apparently led to a third root canal. I'm not even sure if that's possible but the dentist thought it was. It was the one that was unbearably painful and I had to guzzle Advil and booze to sleep at night, and chew on aspirin to dull the pain.

Anyway, hopefully that won't happen to you.

haha tuq thanks for sharing. I'm not in any pain right now (lortab) and I hope that won't change. I'm glad to hear things eventually turned out OK for you though, I've been pretty bummed staring at my gaptooth in the mirror and I can't imagine having BOTH front teeth gone, even temporarily.

If that happens I may not fix it and just move to Oklahoma/Arkansas and I won't have a problem.

I got the root canal, it was basically 100% painless, a few half second bursts of pain in certain areas, but I got through it (with a lot of sweat and tensed muscles) He gave me like 10 shots of novacane - I was tempted to ask for the gas too.

Anywho, I'm all numbed up now, but he said it would hurt for a while after until the soreness goes down...So I'm still drinking that rum and coke. I do need to take some advil to help with the inflamation. There is something on my toothe, i'm not sure what it is, but I keep tounging it. Haha, tounging.

I'll be going to get the crown put on in a few days I think.
