Default Number of players at limit tables

Hi, I'm looking to go to a B&M casino for the first time. I was wondering, how many people are generally sitting at limit tables? Also, are there specific 6-max tables usually?

I play low limits if it makes a difference.

typically 9 handed. it costs the room the same for the dealer whether he's dealing to 9 or 6 so I think it's going to be pretty rare to find 6-handed, but I've only been to one B&M. also, a lot of the players are hoping to hit the bad beat jackpot and the odds of that are better the more players you have at a table.

They tried offering 6 max tables at the Venetian in Las Vegas for awhile to try to appeal to internet players, but I doubt they are still doing it.

It varies by casino, but they generally seat 9 people in California, 10 in Atlantic City and I beleive most other east coast casinos, I think Vegas was mostly 10 handed when I was there, but MGM had just switched to 9 handed.

Most live casino poker players in my experience do not like playing short handed, and some will refuse to play with any fewer than 7 players. It actually makes some sense in CA where they have a fixed $4 or higher drop on any flop. You can pay an awfully big percentage in rake when it is a headsup hand which doesn't go far past the flop.

9 or 10 handed when the games are full. No 6 max games unless it's short handed. 6 max been tried and isn't cost effective for a casino when they could rake a 9 or 10 handed game plus live players hate to play short, especially low limit.

Until you start playing high limit games you will rarely get to play short handed for long. Best bet - play late hours and cross your fingers the game doesn't break, live players tend to hate to play short handed. Don't let the dealer stop if he/she just sits there assuming the game will break, tell her to keep dealing, the players will tell her when they are done (this seems to be a common problem in Vegas, much worse than what I experienced in AC). Also to keep the table from breaking make sure you ask for reduced rake/time charge - WHILE THE GAME IS STILL PLAYING. Once you loose momentum its often all over, don't let your opponents loose their focus - keep them playing!

In 99 percent of the games they will be full(9 or 10), or be filled in a very short time, its VERY rare to find a short game untill u get to big limit games

Graveyard is your best bet, or play higher.

Always 9 or 10 handed. Occasionally games will be short, but that almost never lasts.

Not only are people there for the bad beat jackpot, they have no concept of how unlikely it is to hit 6-handed. They only think "ooh, more table share!" BBJ is arguably -EV 10-handed, but 6-handed with $2+$1 for drop/jackpot vs. 5-handed only $1 drop, hardly anybody wants to play 5-handed. But they'll keep it up 6-handed and pay that extra $2.
