Taking Notes

Does anyone ever take notes while playing in B&M casinos? Would it be a waste?

I know some friends who do this, but I don't think I would want the table image that would go along with it. I do take a note of my starting time and amount of chips I buy in for so I can keep track of my hourly rate, but try to do it as discretely as possible.
