I get pissed when the dealer says something like,"wow what a big pot" or "nice hand" after you win to hustle tips.

We're talking about posting a BB to see their first hand at the table...

...a single BB...

...that He's going to post anyway, so the net effect to those of us at the table is Zero $?

I think it is part of the Dealer's job to make a new player at the table comfortable, especially a player that may be unclear of the Blind Posting rules of that particular room. For example, the OP talks about posting "between the blinds" - guess what, that isn't an option in any of the casinos in which I play. And I do have a few Live hours logged. So this little tidbit from a Dealer would be appreciated.

Again, the net $ available to the table is unchanged.

Do you get upset when a Dealer assists other players at the BJ table?

(Trick Question: You shouldn't be wasting your time @ the BJ Table.)

Part of the Dealer's job is to make for a pleasant gaming experience, including for newer players.

I don't think you get it. There was this huge fish that I know quite well who plays poker a bunch that sat on my right the other day. He was there to GAMBLE, and wanted to post right away. The dealer said "it's better to wait" so he just took her advice. He looked disappointed that he ended up waiting. These people just wanna gamble. If the dealer tells them it's better to wait, they listen though, because they don't want to APPEAR foolish.
It's bad for the gambling atmosphere of the game.

more annoying than comments...i was playing a torney at the trop last weekend and the dealer farted at the table

[/ QUOTE ]

I once had a dealer lean over and ask me if farts have lumps. At the time I felt that it was totally inappropriate but kept playing and she and I became great friends.

Another reason I prefer live play over online........

I would have agreed with OP until just last night. I sat down for the first time in a "1-2-2 5 to go" NL game, and let me tell you, it was a rough 60 seconds. I sit down and they are taking time right then (because the seat I was filling was vacated by a dude who didn't want to play the next half hour). Ok, so I give up my 6 chips, whatever. Now I'm in the CO for the first hand and am told I have to post 5 to come in. The blinds are 1-2-2 and I have to post 5? Huh? And then someone starts saying "you have to post 5 and kill it or you can wait" but I had just paid time and didnt really want to wait 7 hands and to be honest I had no freaking clue what was going on. I tried asking the dealer for my "options" and she was not helpful. If she had just said "It's best to post now" that would have been great.

I eventually found out that all new players must post a $5 blind, which "kills" the pot and makes it 10 to go. Any other player may kill the pot at any time he likes. It's like straddling, only you can do it whenever you're not in the blinds.

Yeah, if the rules are like that I would much prefer the dealer to sat which is best rather then go through speech that every time a new player comes in.

And for the brand new to B&M tourist just sitting down for his first 2/4 game, normal rules are like this. I've seen people get deer in headlights looks and be completely speechless and frozen in terror when the first thing the dealer asks when they sit down is "are you posting?" Doesn't help when the dealer tries to "clarify" with something like "you can post a big blind now or wait for the blind and post then, or wait a couple more hands and buy the button, or let the button pass and come in behind". The response is either a deepening look of terror or a plantive "uhhhh... ok?" A simple "you can post or wait two hands for the blind--I'd just wait" will speed things up and make the first impression the player gets match what the floor promised him...that "the dealer will help you figure it out."

You want to cultivate the friendly appearance of the table to the n00bs. Sure, get 'em to do something stupid like post UTG and you may get an extra $2 from 'em one time. Or make friends, convince them this is just like playing on their kitchen table, and they'll come back and give you $200 every weekend long as they're having a good time.

It sounds like in OP's case the player wasn't new. In which case, he knew he had the option to ask to be let in. And if he's as hot-to-play and as bad as we're lead to believe, he probably will ask to be dealt in.
