Tony Blair
MY word. When is all this going to end?
Blair blames spate of murders on black culture · Political correctness not helping, says PM · Community leaders react angrily to comments Patrick Wintour and Vikram Dodd Thursday April 12, 2007 The Guardian Tony Blair yesterday claimed the spate of knife and gun murders in London was not being caused by poverty, but a distinctive black culture. His remarks angered community leaders, who accused him of ignorance and failing to provide support for black-led efforts to tackle the problem. One accused him of misunderstanding the advice he had been given on the issue at a Downing Street summit. Black community leaders reacted after Mr Blair said the recent violence should not be treated as part of a general crime wave, but as specific to black youth. He said people had to drop their political correctness and recognise that the violence would not be stopped "by pretending it is not young black kids doing it". |

[/ QUOTE ] Well, when is what going to end? A) discussion of possible contributing factors, or B) the allowance of the possibility that culture as well as economics may play some role in violent crime, C) that blacks are heavily and disproportionately represented in violent crime in America (and, from the above excerpt, apparently in England too)? Which of the above would you like to see end? Is there anything I didn't mention which you would wish to see end? Thank you for reading, and for taking the time to respond to my post. |

wise ass. you know what I meant. [/ QUOTE ] No, I'm trying to construct a framework within which to analyze and discuss. If you feel the matter is not worth analyzing then I guess there isn't much to discuss. |

"by pretending it is not young black kids doing it". [/ QUOTE ] If an American politician said that, he'd be in trouble. It will be interesting to see the fallout in Britain. It would be nice to have a healthy discussion on these imoprtant matters, but we usually don't do that. |

Re: Tony Blair
It's a bold statement by Tony Blair, especially when you consider he's from the liberal party in a more liberal country (although in matters of what you can say on race that may not be the case as the USA is very liberal/PC in that respect).
Still, there is a problem which needs to be addressed, the problem is, no one can make money/advance career/become loved by millions by saying "Black culture contains a flaw which predisposes blacks to violent crime and must be corrected." This type of statement actually ends careers, loses money, etc. for most all who put it forward, with the small exception of conservative black talk radio hosts making a few bucks. The money on this issue to be made is in saying, "The problem is education, housing, jobs, we need to throw more tax money at the problem." So you have politicians, beaurecrats, preachers, teachers, principals, etc all spending more money rather than considering the possibility that what Blair says is true. Potentially the bigges problem in black culure imo is that the leaders who influence thought and action tend to be 22 year old rappers. Then, if anyone in the black community tries to disagree and inject logic into debate, they're marginalized and denounced as Uncle Tom. |

Re: Tony Blair
When Peter Ueberroth volunteered to champion the clean up in the LA riots, he was quoted as saying, "the problem with black America is black leadership. The leaders want to continually tell their people that they're down and out to keep themselves above it and remain in power."
