Default Other Poker Books and Websites

I'm starting this thread to compile our favorite books, magazine articles, and Internet sources on our favorite "Other Poker Games". I'm starting with a repost of the list from the Other Poker FAQ.

I'd also recommend "Other Poker" enthusiasts to read Sklansky's Theory of Poker and Chen/Ankenmann's The Mathematics of Poker. Also, a new site with a lot of good information about any lowball game is Lowball Gurus, including a new Lowball Wiki.

Draw High:
Mason Malmuth, Winning Concepts in Draw and Lowball
Mike Caro, Advanced Strategies in Draw Poker

I know the thread looks dumb, but there is a good chance that the FAQ will be revised without the book recommendations, and I simultaneously want to start a recent thread with these recommendations and elicit any resources that might be missing.

Should change my article link from

http://www.twoplustwo.com/magazine/i...uts%202-7.html
(removed after three months) to
http://www.lowballgurus.com/articles...n-lowball.html

I guess Razz belongs in the Stud forum, so the absence of "Sklanksy on Razz" is tolerable. But I'd like to see a mention of it anyway.

I agree with the addition of Chen and Ankenmann. After all, the [0,1] game is lowball--- 0 is the best hand!

I have recently learned about two books that cover lowball:

Pot-Limit and No-Limit Poker by Stewart Reuben and Bob Ciaffone has a London Lowball section.

Precentage Hold'em and the Lowball Book by Justin Case.

I haven't seen either of these but would appreciate hearing from anyone who's read them. (And I'd appreciate a review on the Lowball Wiki even more!)

Is it OK to ask what people have thought of
Michael Wiesenberg, Free Money?

I couldn't really get into.

Pot Limit and No Limit Poker - I love this book and would reccomend anyone who plays 'big bet' poker to read it. The lowball draw section covers no limit A-5 (with the joker)and then tells you how to translate to 2-7. It's quite brief but as usual with this book you don't want to just read one section, it needs to be read in it's entirity. I also love the London Lowball section (A-6 stud low)

Free Money - I know what you mean, I couldn't get into it either, it's seems badly organised. I haven't tried his stratagies yet as the structures he talks about are nothing like anything I'd normally play, I guess they're quite out of date now. It's a shame as I love his Card Player columns.

[ QUOTE ]

Precentage Hold'em and the Lowball Book by Justin Case.

[/ QUOTE ]

This book used to be available free on the web. It's an elementary book on calculating odds in certain situations. Justin Case was the pen name of a long time RGP poster.

[ QUOTE ]
Author's Note: This little book is not a primer. It
is not going to help you much if you are trying to learn
to play Lowball. This is the book of numbers, the book
on the mathematics and psychology of playing percentages
... Lowball percentages. This little book is not a good
percentage bet, if you do not know what a good percentage
bet is.
This little book is for the Lowball Player. The
experienced Lowball player, who has progressed to where
he wants to know the precise percentages. This book is
for you if you are aware that the best percentage player
is the best player ... if you see that it is possible to
have "the best of it" on every hand you play -- even when
it is a Ten or a two-card draw -- if the odds on the
money are right, and you know the numbers.

I have the Ciaffone PL/NL book and have to admit I've never played PL/NL lowball... but I would recommend the rest of that book (possibly the best of its type until last year's rash of NLHE books came out) so it wouldn't surprise me if the recommendations in the lowball section are also good.
