I nearly jumped out of my pants when Nicky bet this river and was no good. I actually did jump out of my pants when Nicky checked the turn also.

[/ QUOTE ]

Nick is usually quite predictable, he'll bet the flop with his overcards and normally check behind if he whiffs the turn. So maybe for this hand he changed it up a bit HU.

Do you remember who the 2 horrible players were in this hand? A description (if you remember) would be helpful.

Was this on Friday night? If so, at table 67 (eventually one of the two main games) or was it on 47 or whatever random table near the tournament area that they used as a "must-move to the must-move". Eventually that game broke and there were just two main games.

Just curious if I was the horrible loose player who limped in. I played with Nick for a little bit on Friday night before transfering over to the main game.

I'm not going to be offended if I was one of the horrible players. I've been called worse.

he's certainly going to remember this. likely, he'll value bet hands differently against you. i think his mindset now will be that you're willing to call a bet lightly.. so just be prepared on how this hand will affect you in future pots with him.

[/ QUOTE ]

This doesn't make any sense to me. How am i calling a bet "lightly" with top pair? Aren't you the one who always says that he plays "ABC poker" and "isn't anything special"? If that's your opinion of his play, then why would you expect him to radically adjust the way he plays hands against me? I really don't get what you're saying. I don't see how this hand is anything other than a standard hand. He would play this hand exactly the same way against me if our situations were reversed and he was in the BB with the Q8s. Except that he would bet the river.

If there's something I'm missing here, please elaborate.

[/ QUOTE ]

i thought you said this is your first hand with him? maybe i read it wrong.. but if that is the case.. he remember people who play there regularly.. I played there a lot before i actually got tangled in a hand with him.. and he played me differently after that.. sorry if I took you wrong.

TT,

do you feel a check call is only going to make him tighten up his river betting range against OP, or is it going to make him play more aggressively on earlier streets? and which is better, and why?

also.. with nicky now knowing he chose the c/c line with top pair.. do you think this broadens OP's river raise bluff equity in future scenario's, given Nicky is certainly capable of folding and is by no means LAG?

It was on Friday night. I don't know the table number, but it was one of the normal 20/40 tables. It had originally started as a must move, but got switched to a main game.

I don't know who you are or if you were there, but there is absolutely zero chance that one of the limpers is a 2+2er.

Ok, now I finally get what you were saying. No, this was absolutely not my first hand with Nick, though we haven't tangled all that much.

Check/call is the way to go. The Q is a card that completes or pairs too many draws for him to call with an Ace.

I'd never bet in this spot. Nicky loves saving bets, on the flop he's gonna put you on 3 things.

A pair, a jack, or a straight draw most likely QT. If you bet here I think there's a 0% chance he calls you with his AK, the only time he does call you is if he has AQ.

Betting here is pretty bad IMO.
