actually this has happened to me about a couple weeks ago. im a senior and am taking a 100 level astronomy course and had a wedding i was gonna be in on saturday and didnt check the schedule and missed it completely. test is worth 10% of total grade, i'll still end up gettin an A in the class.

just man up and accept the consequences

Take it the next morning

reasoning:

you haven't been to class in about a month: likelihood of professor letting you get away with excuse = 60% (if it's a really good excuse)

Expected Grade if you take exam at 10:30 = 75

Expected grade if you postpone exam = 95

Utility associated with 75 = -20

Utility associated with 95 = +25

Utility associated with 0 = -90

Suck it up >=< Make Excuse
(-20)1 >=< (+25)(.40)+(-90)(.60)
-20 > -44

Looks like you'll be unhappy either way, but i say suck it up and take it in the morning

If I was the Professor, I wouldnt let you off the hook after missing a month of class.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, this is where you're screwed. Professor's generally have no problem helping you out if they think you're putting forth the effort. If you haven't been to the classes in a month, good luck getting your excuse to fly, whatever it would be. The only sure-fire way to get out of it would be to do something to put yourself in the hospital the day of.
