You should buy based on the quality of a product...

I agree. I'm not advocating that people buy American. I'm just saying I don't agree that it makes no difference whether you buy an American or a Japanese car.

How do explain then it's fairly impressive 0-60 time of 5.9? Are you saying they rev the engine at standstill to get the performance up?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. In the article, they mentioned that they rev the car to 7500 and dropped the clutch to get 5.9 seconds.

In Car & Driver's most recent test (June 2007 issue), they got 6.5 seconds. It did, however, win the comparison test between the Audi TT, the 350Z, and the Ford Mustang Shelby .

I very seriously considered buying a Mazda RX8, but I've come to grips with the fact that I'm a middle-aged man trapped inside a 23 year old body, so I'm buying a 3-series BMW instead as a compromise between being old and wanting a luxury car and being a reckless youngster.

That being said, from all the research and test drives I've done, the car is great, minus that whole "it doesn't feel as powerful as you think it should be."

[/ QUOTE ]

im even more of an old man in a 23 year old body as well, i love extremely large lux sedans, i copped an Li about 4 months ago and ill never go back to a japanese car. you can't go wrong, theres just something about the DSC in BMW's that makes it handle so well, you'll be really happy with it. OP should consider buying a used BMW instead of an RX8, a used Z4 would be comparable in style and price. and for all the 'its so much maintenance' junkies, its not that bad if you find an independent bmw-only shop in your area, the dealer is where you get ripped.

rx8's are the closest car in the real world to Ace and Gary's penismobile.

[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I'm pretty sure this title belongs to the Z3 Coupe.

The back seat is supposedly relatively roomy (for a sports car), but is a pain to get in and out of. I've never actually sat in the back seat, so I can't confirm or deny that.

i haven't read any of the replies so bear with me...
my friend has an '06 RX8 and honestly its not a good car. he has had numerous break and tire problems, along with at least 2 serious engine problems...all of which were unprovoked and the sort of things that just all of a sudden the car stopped working properly...obv at times it is difficult to get the right parts for sensitive areas of the car because of its more unique design which also is a problem IMO and all in all i think for the same amount of money you could get a comparable car, if not a better car, with tons less headaches...the G35 for example is pretty comparable in most areas and is a much better buy from my personal experiences and my friends

Yeah, for instance, didn't the RX8 motor have a giant recall!

[/ QUOTE ]

They had flooding problems with some of the first models. This was corrected by giving a new battery, starter motor, and flashing of the engine's computer.

[/ QUOTE ]

I thought it had somethign to do with oil consumption and oil leaking throught the engine into the exhaust and ruining that catalysts.

yeah, here it is, not just early models, up to some 06's even: http://rotarynews.com/node/view/822
