Re: Evolution and the wisdom of crowds
I see what he means but he completely negates the fact that any society is a result of the acts and opinions of all individuals that inhabit it. So a society that rejects evolution can't be more correct than one which accepts it using this theory.
You have to implicitly state beforehand that you think believing in the theory of evolution is the best (or worst) choice before you start analyzing your crowds, and then the discussion is moot. For example, wikipedia and netflix users are merely examples of samples of a human populace, their 'wisdom of the crows' can't objectively said to be better than the wisdom of say...Klu Klux Klan using this theory, unless you made up your mind beforehand. Wisdom is a poor choice of word also, because it is biased. He should have used something neutral like 'opinion' or 'choice'. |

I think you've missed the point. Hopefully someone else will elaborate, as I have to hit the road for a conference.

Re: Evolution and the wisdom of crowds
Ah, saw that article posted on Slashdot today since it was written by a software developer.
So aggregate human behavior and evolution are adaptive systems? I'll have to ask my God to confirm this. |
