I'd designate a week in Bangkok, a week on the islands, and then keep a week free to play it by ear. Flights are really cheap and you can book them the day before.

You want to stay as flexible as you can, but definitely see the islands and enjoy the bangkok nightlife.

Woops, misread that. I thought you were here for three weeks. Either way, what I've said basically stays the same. Play it by ear, and no need to lock yourself in with set plans.

So this my last night before leaving tomorrow, staying at the hotel I just took a few pics. Ill post some to get some feed back on the following:

-do I fit thailand?
-done enough not to look like a backbacker?
-now that youve seen me what hotel should I stay for the first night(s)

I'm pretty sure that with better hair, pink sunglasses and a cigarette you could fit the place pretty well.

Seriously, of course you can fit lol: no dreadlock.

Bangkok is an acquired taste. Try it for a few nights but if you aren't feeling it then make a B-line for the islands.

[/ QUOTE ] This is definitely true. Bangkok is like any other major city, some people love it, some people hate it. Throughout this thread, I've seen a number of posts like "Hey guys in February I'm moving to Bangkok for 8 months. What's a skytrain?"

Stay in the place a while before committing to living there.
