Floyd Landis - Innocent?
It seems the Lab made an "administrative error" on the B sample and that the positive finding was not his. Hmmm?

[ QUOTE ] In its report, the lab wrote that the "B" sample tested was number 994,474, while the actual number was 995,474, Le Monde said. "The error, of an administrative nature, does not mean the positive B sample was not that of the American," Le Monde said. "But it is being used today by his lawyers ... to contest his positive doping results." [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: Floyd Landis - Innocent?
There have been a couple interesting developments in the Landis case. It appears there is a good chance he isn't going to be found guilty of doping.
http://www.velonews.com/news/fea/11762.0.html Some pretty serious allegations against the lab doing the testing. |

Re: Floyd Landis - Innocent?
I've always thought he was innocent, despite getting yelled at on this forum for it. And innocent or not, I'll never forget that ride, which was my favourite few hours of sport in my life.

Re: Floyd Landis - Innocent?
This is just the standard "attack the labs" tactic that people in this spot (and criminal defendants) use. It looks like there are procedural problems, etc. and these might even be enough to get him off, but I see no reason that a casual spectator would weight this so much that they would conclude that the actual result (highly elevated testosterone and artificial testosterone) is incorrect. Unfortunately, it appears to me (I have followed this since last July) that the lab results are, for a person who just wants to know whether he was doping that day or not, reliable enough that I have to conclude that he was. This is a shame, because almost everyone else has also been doping and it draws attention away from the fact that Floyd produced one of the most breathtaking performances in recent memory that day.
I feel bad for him that he was caught, as I think that doping is currently simply a requirement of the job for a top-level cyclist, but since he has been I actually hope that the results are upheld as the idea that testing positive is only a first step toward being punished (since you can then attack the results, etc) is even worse for the sport. |

Re: Floyd Landis - Innocent?
I really don't understand how the lab screwed up so much. Is this really that hard a process? And since they messed up before, why were they still used?
