Default Chopsticks

I have something to admit.... I don't know how to use chopsticks. I've tried so many times, I even bought those stupid beginners sticks with a spring, but for me its like I'm retarded... I become the most socially awkward person in the world.

So here is my offer OOT. Teach me how to use chopsticks and I'll give you $100. If I learn from a combination of posters I'll split the money. If I still don't learn, or if I'm just too lazy to do anything about it then you are SOL.

Anyone up for the challenge?

PS: I have some nerve damage, my hands are weak due to a skiing accident. This should make it extra hard

Hey man, don't ask me. I'm Asian, and I only know how to use chopsticks the 'scissors' way, which is a complete embarrassment to the rest of my family.

You just gotta get used to having the sticks there between your fingers. Once you get used to them being there and balanced, the rest is just pushing down with the index finger. It's all a matter of getting used to the chopsticks being there.

P.S. If my 10-thumb-having ex-girlfriend can learn to use chopsticks, you can do it too.

I can't do the 'scissors' way so I actually think that this technique is cool.

This is not a hacker link: chop stick demo

What are those spring things you speak of? I have never seen them.

Anyway, the way I learned was to balance one in the crook of my thumb and index finger, the other held by thumb, index finger and middle finger much as you hold a pencil. Then move the one held on top (by thumb, index, and middle) up and down to grab food stuffs.

T

Only one stick moves.
Hold one stick like a pencil, that one is still.
Put the other one along your pointer finger and just use it to press food against the stationary one.

EDIT:
After you have the stationary one in the same place as a pencil, it rests inside your thumb and on your little and ring fingers. You use the other two fingers to guide the moving stick with the tip of your thumb holding in place.
You can see it best here: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2039.html
