Jbrochu,

The 50% is 1 out of 2. I didn't really know the guy who died and the guy he was climbing with was a close friend of a close friend, but I didn't know him very well.

I've know a fair amount of rock climbers and have done a little myself. Seems like a lot of the ice climbers go without ropes and that it is very dangerous.

I'll try almost anything with ropes, gear, and very careful experienced people I trust, but I wouldn't free climb anything over about 15 feet.

you know this thing to do with poker tracker, am i safe to use it? or should i be waiting until its sorted?

[/ QUOTE ]

You are safe to use it, just don't upgrade it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I had mine set to auto-upgrade, I set it to manual update now.

FYI.

In poker tracker

Help --> Check for New Versions Preferences...

Then click the

No, don't check for a new version, I will check manually.

[/ QUOTE ]

Even when it checks automatically, it doesn't download an upgrade automatically.

[/ QUOTE ]

True - I just didn't want to forget and go ahead and upgrade after it checks, until the site is secure.

micro - That's pretty much my feelings now especially considering I have a family relying on me.

There are several reasons a lot of ice climbers climb unroped:

1) You are sort of giving yourself a belay as you go with your ice tools.

2) Roping up by no means assures you won't get seriously hurt or killed in a fall. You pretty much just don't want to fall when ice climbing where as in rock climbing you can fall a lot and very safely if you know what you're doing.

3) If you're climbing long alpine routes it takes too long screwing around with the ropes and gear on the easy stuff. It's probably safer in many spots to go unroped so you can move through rockfall zones, hanging serac danger, and avalanche prone areas fast.

4) It's an awesome experience moving up a long ice route alone and totally relient on yourself. I've found nothing else really where I can totally lose myself in the moment and forget the day-to-day grind. For this reason, it's also somewhat addicting for some people.

So over my last 2000 16s my finish position is:

10.8, 13.4, 16.8 this is considerably different from my previous 2000+ which were 1>3>2 wtf am I doing wrong? or is 2000 not enough to start worrying? 8% roi is so weak at the 16s and its driving me crazy. I have felt as though Ive lost alot of ITM flips recently but 10.8 is just so low.
