Default Absolute best possible monitor currently available?

Title says it all. I'd love to get some takes here. What is the absolute highest resolution possible on a computer monitor these days, and how good does it look? Discuss.

All of the 30" monitors look amazing (Dell, HP, Samsung, Apple). I haven't seen the Gateway 30" yet.

2560 x 1600 = resolution on the 30" monitors.

i think the consensus is that the gateway one is best, because it has lots of inputs and cool upscaling features.

yeah, any video card that has:

a) dual-link dvi

and

b) two dvi ports

can do that.

Just to be picky. This isn't always the case. Some cards have one dual-link dvi port and one single-link dvi port.

heh, not seen a production unit with this yet, but someone linked me to it:

kinda neat imo

EDIT: for real recommendations, Samsung 305t or the Gateway 30" if connectivity is an issue - but I doubt you'd be disappointed in any 30" panel really.

dave.

I will have the 30" Gateway on Thursday. I'll be posting pics of my new rig (obv. up and running now), so feel free to ask questions.

I'd prolly just like to know about cost-per-monitor, just how good it looks, performance issues (esp. related to playing, i.e. full-sized tables per monitor possible, max tables per monitor possible tiled, etc.) How good DVDs look on it, etc. I am just in a preliminary information-gathering stage right now. Ty for your responses everybody, most recently SirFelix, I will def. eagerly await pictures and I hope you will also include some screenshots... Peace
