OOT help me pick a TV
Hey guys,
I have been browsing the forums at AVS lot the last couple days trying to educate myself about the differences between plasma and LCD to see which is best for me. This is an x-post from there, but I wanted some 2+2 input. A little bit about my situation: -My budget is up to $2000. -My couch is ~7 ft from where the TV will be. -It will be used almost exclusively for TV and some movies. -I do most of my TV watching at night (reason against LCD maybe) -I don't need to hook it up to my PC as a monitor ("). -I do not get HDTV at the moment, but would get it through Comcast if I had a high-def TV. So, I guess I am leaning towards plasma at this moment, but am not set on it by any means. Here is what I am looking at right now: Plasmas -VIZIO P50 HDTV link Is this going to be way too big for how close I will be sitting from the screen? And while not the best brand for plasmas, Vizio seems to get decent reviews on AVS from what I have read. -Panasonic 42" TH-42PX6U link A 42" plasma for the same price as the Vizio above. Panasonic seems to be one of the better plasma brands. Would 42" be better than 50" since I am 7 feet from the screen? LCDs -Sceptre X37SV-Naga LCD link Seems to get decent reviews on AVS. Anyways, I would really appreciate any input. Thanks |

Get the Panasonic, they are rated top in Plasma screens. My friend has the same model and it looks great.

Re: OOT help me pick a TV
Panasonic is the king of plasma at the moment, highest rated and the prices are becoming better, google "how far should I sit from my plasma TV" and one of the first hits should be a good guide to screen size/distance.
Out of those definitely go for the Panasonic, I had to do a 20 page report on HD TVs and the Panasonics were always highly rated by everyone in my research. Id tell you more but unfortunately dont have a hard or disk copy where Im at at the moment. |

Re: OOT help me pick a TV
Plasma can suffer burn-in; LCD cannot. So if you'll be watching a lot of non-HDTV tv on it, don't get plasma unless you plan on stretching the 4:3 image to fill the 16:9 screen.

Re: OOT help me pick a TV
I would say tigerdirect.com would have a better price and just as good warranty plan.

Re: OOT help me pick a TV
If you don't really care about hanging it on a wall, go for DLP. The Samsungs are beautiful, don't have burn-in issues, and have black levels comparable to Plasmas. Save you a bundle of $$, too.
