Default Ridiculous Rule - how do you respond to a casino like this?

This past weekend I was travelling and went to a casino that I have only played in twice before. I was playing 5/10 Limit when the following situation arises.

Multiple players in the hand. The flop is King-X-Y with X and Y both being small cards (I can't remember the denomination of the cards, but it is irrelevant here). Some betting and folding leaves only two players in the hand. Turn is another X, pairing the board. Player A bets, player B calls. River is an Ace. Player A bets, Player B calls. Both players showdown.

Player B turns over first, and shows K9. The dealer places his two cards close to the flop. Player A then turns over his cards and shows KQ. The dealer then immediately pushes the pot to Player A. Player B says nothing.

At this point, someone at the table speaks up, and says it should be a chopped pot. The dealer is in the process of grabbing the flop and player B's hand and placing them upside down on top of the muck. Player A's cards are still in front of him. The dealer then stops everything, and the floor is called. The situation is explained to the floor. As this is happening, the dealer takes the flop cards and player B's hand off the top of the muck, turns them back face up, and recreates the board cards and player B's hand to show the floor. Everyone - dealer, player B and all others at the table - confirm that the cards are correct on the board and confirm player B's hand.

The floor rules that all of this is irrelevant. As soon as the dealer pushes the pot to one player, the casino can't take it back from that player. It doesn't matter whether or not it should have been a chop. It also doesn't matter whether the cards were mucked or whether each player still had his cards in his hand. He continues to say that it doesn't even matter if the pot was pushed to a player who lost the hand. Their policy is that once the dealer pushes the pot to a player, and that player has accepted it, the casino can't/won't do anything to fix it.

How do you respond to a rule like that?

Don't play there anymore, and encourage anyone with a brain to do the same.

As soon as I read they spread 5/10 limit (as opposed to the more action inducing 4/8 or 6/12) I knew this story wasn't going to have a happy ending.

That said, if the cardroom is otherwise a good place to play compared to your other choices just be real careful on the showdown.

Pick up my chips and leave. They are clearly uninterested in having the winning hand get the pot.

And if there is a 'governing body', ie some sort of Gaming Commission, I take names and file a complaint.

And as mentioned on another thread, I never give up possession of my cards until either I see that I am beat or I recieve my share of the pot.

5/10 seems to be the standard up here in Canada (or at least Ontario) since each of the 5 closest casinos spread 5/10. (ooops - I'm giving away clues as to which casino it may have been!)

I also always hold onto my cards for the same reason - but here that doesn't seem to make a difference to them. I even asked the floor what am I supposed to do, and he said speak up. But if it only takes 1.2 seconds to push the pot, how is my speaking up going to stop that? I even asked him if I have to dive across the table to block the pot being pushed and he "politely advised me against putting my hands into the pot".

He kept telling me that they are committed to providing a game of integrity, but when they clearly don't care whether or not the correct person gets paid, and they clearly don't care to correct obvious mistakes which are their own fault and that are easily correctable, and they implement a rule which would make it insanely simple for a dealer and a player who knew each other to collude, I start to question their definition of integrity!

I don't plan to play there again myself, I was more just curious to find out how others would respond.

5-10 is common in areas where they have never had someone to teach them which limits are best to spread. 5-10 games can be really good, but a 5-10 game being spread means the management of the room lacks experience. Note: it is possible to work a long time in this business without gaining any real experience.

Ontario seems to be pretty regulated about things like not allowing free drinks at casinos; hopefully they'll be pretty strict about this too.

why not just tell us where this was?

i'd have a hard time believing it was brantford, and i doubt it was rama unless they have new moronic floorpeople.

my best guess would be the ex, which isn't actually a cardroom, and is run by people who have no clue what they're doing.

Out of curiousity, what did the person who got the pot do?

If it was me I'd be splitting the pot and giving the other guy half.

As for the casino, I'd also like to know which one it is. From what I've seen of AC casinos (Borgata and Tag) and of Brantford, Brantford was run WAY more professionally. I know that's mind boggling, but very true. Maybe its just a matter of size, but its still true in my opinion.
