Default Specific rules for Moderators

Rule one: Moderators may never ban a poster for an infraction which did not occur in the forum they moderate. The only exception is when a spammy poster has gone crazy making multiple spam posts in multiple forums.

This place is now officially big. Lots of stuff is happening and mistakes will be made. Mistakes will also be corrected. However mistakes will only be corrected by the individual who made the mistake or by an administrator.

Rule two: Moderators may never, without authorization, overturn the decision of another moderator. No exceptions to this one.

RB: Any violation of these rules will be dealt with on a case by case basis. However, mods shouldn't expect to be warned more than once if it comes up. That should always be enough.

Good rules.

I thought it better to ask here as it's more detail that discussion, but spamming would include scammers + people giving personal stuff about other posters, right? (like some fool did with EL D. details in BBV and I think NVG, whom I banned).

I'd hate to see some tard posting obv personal stuff across several forums, and feel I couldn't act to stop him.

I trust you guys to know when an exception is appropriate. It's rule 2 which needs to be followed always.

Given the recent events that have caused these rules to be put into place, and the continued lack of acknowledgement of [censored] up, I wonder if this trust is misplaced in some cases..........

I agree with the rules and also agree with your reasoning of not allowing read only of the mod forum. Being a noob mod I can see how this is not stuff that trolls etc. should be accessing. It would also defeat the purpose of this forum.

I like daver's suggestion of posting in ABT when a user is banned of suspended. I also like El D's suggestions, although it may not be realistic because some forums have different rules for decorum but in theory its a good idea that we should at least explore.

Lastly - Mat's rules are very good. And I don't mind if they are used retroactively unless he feels the infractions were due to miscommunication.

Posting when a person is banned or suspended is a terrible idea.

90% of my bans are for trolls or nobody posters who were obviously asking for it. All it will do is stir up crap as those people who hate mods pic nits.

I'm more interested in EL D's idea about definite lengths for bans for specific crimes, but I'm not sure how I feel yet. I think the system of "what seems appropriate" tends to work.
