re·spect·ed, re·spect·ing, re·spects
1. To feel or show deferential regard for; esteem.
2. To avoid violation of or interference with: respect the speed limit.
3. To relate or refer to; concern.
n.
1. A feeling of appreciative, often deferential regard; esteem. See Synonyms at regard.
2. The state of being regarded with honor or esteem.
3. Willingness to show consideration or appreciation.
4. respects Polite expressions of consideration

Alright maybe respect was the wrong word since I wouldn't want to show consideration or appreciation for him if I dealt with him in real life. I am in awe of him would probably be a better way to state my intent. And I was trying to convery why I am in awe of him. The homeless dude who almost conquered the world.

fwiw i think anyone who can look at things objectively understands what you're trying to say.

i also understand why some people are unable to look at the situation objectively.

how much are his paintings worth today?

[/ QUOTE ]

I was trying to find a link to an auction site that had his paintings but I can't find it anymore. I think the upper tier ones were $30k and some were around 4-8k. You can easily find this on google.

I've never read anything about this, but I do know he had terrible halitosis. This probably resulted from his frequent rages that would cause his bile duct to work overtime. For more on Hitler's raging bile duct I direct you to my favorite youtube video of all times.

The reason why Hitler wore his mustache that way was because no one in Germany wore it that way at the time. He did this to advertise his uniqueness I suppose. But a lot of men in Britan wore the mustache that way and Hitler had always respected the British. And yes, he ruined the mustache and the name at least for the next few centuries.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is speculative, of course. Others say the style came from the awkwardness of the Kaiser swoosh style stache when having to wear a gasmask in the Great War. The edges were trimmed off to be more comfortable and kept that way by veterans.

Great thread OP, well done.

I admittedly know very little about Hitler, although have heard that he would have soldiers take amphetamines so as to a) more easily control them, and b) keep them awake and alert for long periods.

Is this true? Also, did Hitler himself abuse drugs?

It was dark and malevolent as you might imagine. No one could make him laugh as frequently as Joseph Goebbel's his old Party comrade and propoganda minister.

There is not much written about his sense of humor, but there is one story I remember that had Hitler in tears. I searched for it through my books in vain. But from memory it was about Goebbel's telling Hitler about an old opposionist newspaper editor who used to print unfavorable stories about Hitler before he assumed power.

This man was traveling home from business or something. And Goebbel's had arranged for the man to instead be flown to the Easter front. Goebbel's explaing the man's reaction to Hitler upon realization that he would be forcibly take to the Easter front is what had him in tears.
