I don't know how you do it.. I can't play the 100 max.. just not worth the time.. the 200 max isn't too bad but the 300 and 500 max games are AWESOME.. I actually prefer the 300 a little better because it plays pretty big and its much weaker competition.

interesting....soft competition at the 300 eh? I just never played that blind structure since have always played 1-2, 1-3 since it's been so easy....more agressive players i assume but still bad, tag style should work? i've heard the 500 max has some massive pots and it's a bit too big for my bankroll but maybe i'll try 300 this wkend...you're right $100 sucks but it "Can" be good if it gets wild with lots of rebuys it can play far bigger

OP, sorry I didnt meet you today bro, I grinded friday and yest and i was too tired and tilted to stay today and had to meet my family for some stuff....but, i wanna hear your thoughts when you read this.....for everyone else, here's a mini trip report w/whatever I can remember from my 25-30 hrs of grinding this wkend...

a) table selection obviously cannot be emphasized enough. I'd say for me and other borderline players, it makes diff b/w + or -....a few times i was stuck with young grinders/college kids, so i switched tables to some looser, terrible players when I could....

b) I saw perhaps the worst player ive ever seen...lady calling ANY cards for ANY money, and going from $100 to $400 w/in mins, while I prayed I got in a hand w/her but I didnt hit anything....calling $80 pf w/J7s, calling on flop big bets all the way down w/3rd pair, etc...

c) played w/another absolute calling station who every time they called for $2, theyd play for $15....I flopped OPESD, flop was 8d,10d,rag, and I had J9d and called pf raise...4 to that flop...pf raiser makes it 20, 3 callers, I decide to make a play and make it $100....original pf raiser about to push all in before he sees idiot calling station behind him act out of turn and show hes gonna call, so he folds a big pair....calling station calls, naturally, other 2 fold....turn is a blank 4, I push $80 more in he insta calls...river rag so I missed, figured calling station had a pair or two....he turns over 74d, he turned the f'n 4 for like 4th pair and he called $100+ with a 7 high flush draw and nothing else w/no odds, go figure...I said nice hand.

c) why is that low NLHE seems to almost always be a limp fest? how do you change that when you're not getting cards by making plays/raising with deception, etc? as many times, its limped like 6-7 ways and becomes bingo....as an aside specifically on TS, theyve got a ridiculously stacked 5-5 NL $500 max which Id love to hear about, though I dont have the roll for it yet... friday i rolled over some calling stations who kept reloading and NEVER raised preflop or bet, just check/call all the way....so overall, a profitable trip, but a typical grind at LLNLHE....if anyone has any specific tips/thoughts/adjustments on these sorts of games and some ideas to generally improve profit/hr, would love to hear them....

I was at the casino pretty much all weekend playing 200nl (6-3am friday, table 29, 2pm-midnight saturday table 27). Im local and play there a pretty good amount and have had a lot of success at the 200nl game at least. Basically I try to take advantage of how aggressive the game is playing preflop. If it is limping around a lot, I will limp drawing hands from pretty much any position and try to hit a big flop. If it is more aggressive, I will call a preflop raise from the button with a lot of cards provided the preflop raiser has a stack of 200 or more. I am usually pretty aggressive on most flops, but won't play huge pots without a huge hand. Even if the table is playing really loose/passive, I will still raise a large range and then just tighten up after the flop if I get like 4-5 callers.

As for the 100nl game, I don't play that because the 200 game is just as soft and you can stack someone for $200 instead of $100 when they make a mistake.

The 300 game can be either crazy or nitty depending on your table, I have played at both and either way it plays bigger than 300max because people typically have at least 500 on the table and the blinds are 2/5. You have to be willing to gamble a bit in that game.

I played in the 500max a couple times and that game is just silly big. I am trying to figure out a good strategy for that game besides just playing the nuts (which would work pretty well too I think, but I get bored when I don't play LAG live). Its not uncommon to have 6 people see the flop for $50 apiece. Usually most players have $1000 or more, and will put you to big decisions postflop. The good news is that I've noticed that about 4 or 5 of the guys who are terrible/calling stations at 200nl and 300nl are regulars at the 500nl game when its running. Oh and Al Krux is pretty bad too. I really can't wait until I have the roll to sit there comfortably .

Great info Brian...27 was the one closer to the bar, I was at the 200 more towards the back brush area, it was a pretty good game....I basically play an "ordinary" TAG game but I mix in some raises with suited connectors and some plays post flop but nothing crazy.....do you think that strategy could work if I moved up to 300? I've found the 200 to be fairly profitable usually as well, it just very often is a limp fest with 6 to flop and whoever hits flop makes pot size $12 bet with top pair...
the $500 game looks nuts, and I'm not good enough right now to be put to $3-400 decisons on flops by people, or have the roll....do you know that shortish middle aged asian/taienese looking guy, always wears jeans and a grey jacket and hat? he is nuts, and was playing the $500 friday night....I've started to notice many same players everywhere, just a lot of young kid-grinders who play TAG, and with only usually 2 $200 tables not much room, so I play $100 if it's profitable enough, but I cannot wait for the big tourny wkend after turkey day to try the $300, if you could help me identify if the game is good thatd be great....I'll be there this coming weekend grinding again at $200 mostly, and $100 if I need to, so i'll say hello if you'll be there....thanks for the reply
