Default Questions about Argosy (Lawrenceburg, IN)

I spent some time with the search feature and answered some questions but it also generated some new questions.

It appears I am going to be finding myself in the Dayton, OH area for a couple weeks with a lot of time to kill. Argosy appears to be the closest poker option. Any help would be appreciated.

1) How much cash game chips can you cash out at the cage without showing any ID (SSN) nor filling out any forms?

2) What is the largest tourney prize that requires no ID (SSN) nor filling out any forms?

3) I understand the smallest NL game is $1/$3 blinds. What is the min/max buyins? How much is rake or time charge?

4) Min/max buyins for $2/$5 NL? How much is rake or time charge?

5) Some posts refer to the Argosy as "smoky" yet it appears to be non-smoking. Please clarify this.

6) Do they have any decent beer choices and do they force you to drink beer out of plastic cups?

7) Any decent food on site?

8) Any reasons I should avoid the place?

Thanks in advance for your time.

I can answer a few.

3) Min I'm not sure ($100 maybe) but max is $300. Raked game, I seem to remember being $4 max + $1 jackpot drop.

5) I don't agree with smoky comment. No smoking in the room and I never noticed much drifting in.

6) NO. I was LOL'ed at when I asked for a Negro Modelo last time. Then again when I asked for a Corona. They have the general [censored] domestics (bud/bud light/miller light/coors light etc) and heinekin. They serve in bottles.

7) Not real close to the poker room. A floor up there's a snack bar with overpriced low quality sandwiches/hotdogs. Way out by the casino's entrance there's a buffet and a casual dining place which is ok.

8) Not really. I like it, personally.

on the drinks - last time I was there (probably 1998 or 99 or so) they still HAD to charge for drinks as per state-regulations or something.

But they still also had the laws about charging you $3 to get on the boat and only being able to 'board' at certain times (one boarding every 2 hours or something like that).

I know they have done away with the entry-fee and also the boarding-times.
What about the drinks? Can they serve them for free now?

There is smoking on the rail and it could waft in. The whole casino is getting older and might account for some of that odor.

You pay for drinks, so keep that in mind. Indiana law.

There are a couple of decent places to eat on site. But, I mean decent - not gourmet. We usually end up eating buffet since it is quick and surprisingly adequate.

I can't comment on the NL games, I am a 6/12 playah myself.

1) How much cash game chips can you cash out at the cage without showing any ID (SSN) nor filling out any forms?

Any amount less than $10,000.

2) What is the largest tourney prize that requires no ID (SSN) nor filling out any forms?

Don't know, I am not a tourney player. I assume what ever the Federal laws say.

3) I understand the smallest NL game is $1/$3 blinds. What is the min/max buyins? How much is rake or time charge?

Min I believe is $100, $300 max. Rake is $4 with a $1 jackpot drop.

4) Min/max buyins for $2/$5 NL? How much is rake or time charge?

Don't know about the min. Max is $600. Rake is the same.

5) Some posts refer to the Argosy as "smoky" yet it appears to be non-smoking. Please clarify this.

The poker room is in seperate room, with a wide gap in the wall for spectators to look in. 2 walls of the room are closed, one of the open sides is next to the no smoking slot section, but outside one entrance way is where smoking is allowed. That might be where the comments come from.

6) Do they have any decent beer choices and do they force you to drink beer out of plastic cups?

I don't drink. But I don't think they import any beer directly from Munich beer gardens. Beer is served in bottles. I guess you can request a plastic cup, but no one will force you.

7) Any decent food on site?

The one bad thing about the Argosy. Food is poor. Snack bar that is actually on the boat is expensive and poor. Best bet is the buffet right outside the boat, I have never been, lines are always too long.

8) Any reasons I should avoid the place?

If you are an escaped felon, there is a lot of law enforcement around, so you might not want to hang around.

Previous posta are correct about the room being non-smoking. However, you have to walk through smoke to get to the bathroom, which is not close. My clothes always smell like smoke after a session at the Argosy. That said, the action is the best there.

Actually, in IN, up north at least, they take your info for any cash transactions over 3 grand. In fact, I've had to give information at (formerly) Trump for coloring up 8 stacks of green. Not sure if this is company or state policy.

I haven't been at the Argosy in several years, but I agree that it's REALLY freaking smoky.
I felt like I had smoked a couple of packs myself just walking through there.

One trip there before they had poker I played exclusively in their non-smoking blackjack pit. So it's more tolerable when you're actually playing and you don't have some practically blowing smoke right ON you.
But my eyes were still red as per usual and my clothes still smelled like I had been at a crowded, smoky bar/casino all night.
